Just off the Le Lot, is it worth taking the bike?
As in the Lot Valley? I was based down there for a fortnight last summer near Cajarc actually on the Lot itself. One thing, it was flippin hot. Mid 30's at this time of year BUT... the terrain looked amazing for riding and I did actually bump into a few riders one day and in my broken French got the idea it was decent around there. The place we stayed at I'll probably be going back to sometime in the next few years and if so, the bike will certainly be going with me...
Yes, the Lot valley. It does look hot at the moment!
No bike last year meant plenty of time in the canoe, swimming and rope-swinging. Mixed in with a load of wine 'tasting', eating and reading in the shade of a tree by the river...
The area got to me so bad I looked at house prices down there. Stunning area and not many Brits. I thought it could potentially be a untapped oasis for riding. Yes, no lifts or huge mountains but the part of the valley between Cajarc and Cahors had a feel of my native Calderdale about it. Steep sides, lovely scenery and tasty looking trails popping out all over the place...
Enjoy it. Wish I was off back this year 🙁
I'm heading down there the week after next, taking the bike for some exploring. Never been before, so hoping to just luck it out.
its france, of course you want to take a bike
I've been there a couple of times with my Mrs midgebait and we've both taken our bikes. There are a number of GR routes that you can follow. We didn't find anything remotely steep and mostly these are bridleway or farmtrack-ish.
Alternatively, just follow the quiet roads to get between towns as part of a farmers market/ cafe tour. Scorchio and very pleasant.
