Hi folks.

I’m new around here, but have been quite enjoying reading some of the threads over the last couple of months.

I was hoping to find out any pointers for any good local bike shops that people would recommend near the Falkirk / Cumbernauld area. I’m just west of Falkirk itself, so have dropped a message to Greenrig Cycles this morning but I’d be really keen to hear what other options are out there. Stirling and Glasgow are within 20-30 mins from home, so I could travel there too if it’s worth the trip.

I’m only really after a fairly basic overall service just now, but am looking at replacing a couple of parts that I don’t have the tools / knowledge for at the moment. Would love to hear any recommendations for shops, if anyone has any. I’d be hoping to use them in the future too for any other stuff that comes up.

On another note, I’ve been having a lot of problems using the site. I think it’s advert related, and I lost my original post here… so hopefully this works. Apologies if it appears twice.

Many Thanks,

Andy

It’s a test to see if you’ve got what it takes to hang around! 🤫😉

Pedal Power in West Calder is 30 mins from Falkirk

Green rig is a good start. Stirling bike Doctor is another good one but he’s just gone on holiday for a while

Iain who runs The BikeWorks in Stirling is super helpful, knows his stuff, easy to chat to and can set you right on where to ride as well!

I was going to suggest Roots Cycles too. I live in Aviemore but a few of my riding mates use them.

Sick Cycles in East Kilbride is where I take my bike. Stevie Morris is the owner. Used to be Sam Flockhart's mechanic in Sam's shop. Been taking my bike to him for probably 15 years now.

Stirling Bike Doctor fir me. Andy is the best mechanic in the area from my experience. He has just gone on a well deserved holiday for a few weeks. A lot of friends do use the Bike Works though as Andy is amazingly busy.

As above.
I can recommend Iain at the Bike Works. He's open Monday from 9:30ish.

Andy at Stirling Bike Doctor's Instagram feed is brilliant: https://www.instagram.com/stirlingbikedoctor/

Greenrig Cycles - several of their mechanics are highly experienced and have served time in other legendary local shops (No mention of Big Al in Clachan of Campsie ?).
Ask for Dougie if you really want looked after.

Can't add anything other than another recommendation for the 4 shops - Greenrig is closest to you, then Bike Works, then Stirling Bike Doctor (by about 500 yards) then Roots - all do great work and know their stuff.

You free Tuesday evenings? 😉 Always looking for additional help with trailbuilding near(-ish) you...well, at Greenrig!

LOL @ Richard.
Never misses a chance.

This is Big Al:

Oh - and Mark Leadbetter is the best mechanic by a long, long way.
But he'll not pick up the phone if he doesn't recognise the number and he certainly won't phone you back 😉

I’d love to be able to help, but commitments with the kids kind of snooker me for most evenings.

I think I’ll be at Greenrig with the kids tomorrow, so I’ll pop in and speak to them.

Just a wee follow up to this thread.

My bike went in to Greenrig today for a service and to investigate a creak / crack that was steadily getting worse. Dropped it off late morning and had it back at tea time. They were excellent all round. Nice guys and my bike feels better than when I got it. Reasonable price for the work and the creak problem is completely gone.

I took it out immediately for an hour and a bit over the red and black trails near the shop, beautiful night for it and I’m delighted with the work they did. Recommended!

@dickbarton - I possibly saw you tonight, working on the new trail. I was on the black Stumpy who went by at barely walking pace. Despite my previous comment about not getting time, I did manage to grab an hour after work for once so jumped at the chance.

Ah good stuff - yeah, I saw you. No pressure to lend a hand, if you a free then it would be great but likewise, if you have the spare time then get out riding!
Glad to hear you liked the trails, they aren't the most technical or jumpy but they are an ok wee blast.
Also glad to hear the bike shop.was a success.
