Spending a few days there next week, should I take the mtb of road bike? Or the cyclocross?

I've spent 3 or 4 long weekends there.

The issue is the minor roads are covered in shit with a strip of grass down the middle. The A roads are terrifying and there are few types in between. The hills are steep, really steep and there are many of them.

First time I took my FS - OK but few local trails and none circular I could find. Second time I took my winter bike but found it scary on the cow shit. I now take my hard tail with ralphs but CX would be perfect I imagine - if the gearing is low enough!

Very nice loop to be had around Minions etc around Bodmin Moor. I'll see if I can dig out my Garmin traces.

Thanks, if i can build them in time I ll have a set of road wheel for the cyclocross, so might be the best option.
Gearing should ok with a compact on the front and 25 at the back.

Does it have to be local to Launceston or can you travel?

I've got a few GPX loops on Bodmin Moor & Dartmoor you can have, drop me a email (in profile) & I'll send them to you.

For Launceston it has to be an MTB. Some lovely footpaths and quiet country roads (more like farmers tracks). Rest of Kerno would be road bike but North has to be MTB. Enjoy!

Compact 25 is not low for the terrain. I used all of my triple 30 and 29! Hard tail MTB probably most versatile.

You could check out the new trails at Cardinham Woods - not too far away.
