The OS map, and strava, show a path heading due south off the top of Latrigg Fell. Whats it like? Is it a better descending option to avoid the walkers on the main path?

The footpath leading from the parking to the north was upgraded to be wheelchair friendly a couple of years ago. Fine for getting to the summit but I just headed directly back across the open ground.

Just to be clear:

I'm talking about these paths

Roughly equivalent to this segment and down to the bridge.

I know. Not done them, just saying what the northern side is like.

That South descent is just steep and grassy as far as the woods, and not all that great after you reach the treeline. Not really worth it IMHO.
Been exploring in there last time I was up there. Came away disappointed.

Hmm. For my intended direction, I might be better off hooning straight down to Brundleholme then. Heading south...

The cool kids have got some dh lines through the woods which might be on strava. Not popular with the landowner though.
