Anyone seen the changes at Latchford Locks near Warrington?
The route across the locks is now totally fenced in and the concrete has been painted with matt green paint to mark out the designated route. Obviously, someone has done a risk assessment... :/
Aside from it feeling somewhat oppressive now, the matt paint serves to obscure all the lips and bumps that we cyclists need to know about especially when we're on road bike tyres. It's too easy now to get your front wheel stuck in a rut or caught by a lip during low-speed manoeuvring.
You might consider an email to Peel Ports asking them to highlight the lips and bumps in a different colour. I don't think there's any legal right of way but they still have a liability to people on their land, although if it's pushed they could probably withdraw permission and force people to use the swing bridge.
That's a good question regarding the right of way. I don't know if one exists through prescription or if it's just provided at Peel Ports discretion. They certainly spent money keeping it open even before the new 'improvements', however. Have seen at least one runner trip over hard on that concrete before too.
Surely there are "Cyclists Dismount" signs? In which case, they'll not carry out any changes specifically making it safer to ride. They're more likely to ban bikes altogether, if you tell them it's currently dangerous.
If pedestrians are tripping and falling, that's a very different matter.
