Just idly playing with ideas for some upcoming time off and I somehow managed to secure a bike booking on the Inverness train! Almost fell of my chair I was so shocked...

Part of me still wants to do the Loch Ness 360 in one sitting, it feels like it would be a satisfying 'big' day, rather than two slightly short days, but I need to get some bikepacking practice in as have a longer trip coming up in three weeks time.

Fort Augustus is the obvious overnight stop but I can't seem to find any obvious campsite? Was hoping to use somewhere official so I could grab a shower etc. and get food in town.

On which note, where do all the HT550ers get their pizza, that is the Ft Augustus specialty isn't it? 😎

Ta

I think it's the moorings for pizza.

I stayed in a pub 🙂

It *is* a very big day all in one, split over two allows you to enjoy the nice trails one either side. But I've only ever battered round (and felt battered) so don't know about eating & camping. It gets heaving with tourists at the high parts of the day..

I had lunch in the Moorings last week while on the Badger, recommend the Turkish choices, especially the Baklava.

Good to hear, my perspective has been shaped lately by battering around relatively good gravel routes with occasional singletrack diversions, so I shouldn't be so dismissive of doing the 360 over two days on the MTB and actually enjoying it 😎 Really fancied visiting the Glen Doe dam and descending back to White Bridge as a wee extra detour on day 2.

2 votes for the Moorings so far, thanks.

Aye - Moorings for pizza.

Is the campsite in FA not open?

Edit - ah, it's all glamping now 🙁 Maybe stay at Morags? If you're after a wild camp then there's a nice bit at Loch Tarff

Is this the one on the left leaving the town heading south? I never stayed in it but always thought it looked OK. I'm rarely through FA these days as I always take the Whitebridge road if I'm going to Fort William.

“loch chambers Fort Augustus” great rooms, showers and secure bike storage on the 1St floor. You will appreciated a room for the night on that ride!

Yep - the old campsite was taken over by the folk running the lodge/chalet park just on the right as you leave FA. Looks like they've taken the camping option away.

Oh it wasn't that bad was it @kcal? 😁
I'd like to do it over two days as as kcal says it would be great to enjoy the trails rather than yomping round as we did.
Still an absolutely brilliant day out though 😎

You did the LN360 but missed out the FHLP? That's like claiming you did the WHW but got a ferry to skip the bit north of Inversnaid 😂

Lock Chambers booked 😎

Kept telling myself to man up and take the bikepacking gear, but I can't be bothered with wild camping any more, I like a shower, pints, flushing toilets and pancakes for breakfast when I'm on my holidays 😎

Doing it on the 29er, but can I get away with lightweight semi-slicks or is it chundery and rocky?
