Currently have front and rear 2.25 Nobby Nic on my Trail bike, I would like a new front tyre slightly wider for a bit more confidence. I like Schwalbe tyres , ride in mixed xc trails or trail centres not a gravity oriented rider either.

Looking at Hans Dampf or a Nobby Nic in a wider flavour, opinions on both (newer versions) 29er

On my 29" hardtail , 25 mm inner bead width rims I run on the front a 2.35 Hans Dampf, TrailStar, SnakeSkin and SUPER GRAVITY.

This super gravity monster is well above 1 kg and was hell to get onto the rim. Was in sale due to Schwalbe change to addix stuff.

Cornering is of course a blast with these HansDamp tyres. Significant change. Nobby Nic feels more "plush" so.

Guess great combo: 2.35 HansDampf (but no super gravity...) on the front and 2.25 Nobby Nic on the rear. (I run Continental 2.2 Mountain King Protection on the rear).

I just bought a 2.6in Nobby Nic that I'll be putting on the front of my 29er soon.

Heard very good things from a friend.

Compared to the 2.25, the 2.35 nic is fair bit bigger and heavier c850g(?) I think for a snakeskin tyre. I quite like nics, but I find I can't drop the pressure as low as I can with other tyres. Goes squirmy more readily. But keep them pumped up and you'll be fine.

How about a bonty xr4 up front instead? That'll be a good combo with a 2.25 nic on the rear.
