So when I turn on my laptop, running windows Vista, the windows logo comes up on screen as normal and it loads. But, then the display cuts out, rather than going on to the sign-in screen.
I can still type my password in and hit enter, I hear the noise that I'm logged in, but nothing on screen.
While if I start up in safe mode all is 100%.
Tried using the monitor from my desktop but same thing happens.
Also - when i fold the laptop screen down, which would normally cause the laptop to sleep, it doesn't seem to sense this and stays turned on, fan spinning away.
Have googled etc. but can't find anything to do the trick yet - tried resetting multiple times & taking battery out and holding power button
I have very little knowledge or experience with computer problems, so was just wondering if anyone had come across this before and had any simple solutions as I won't be able to take it anywhere to be repaired for a day or two. 🙂 Cheers!
Off-hand, Try logging into safe mode & setting the display resolution to something low (800x600), then reboot. I know safe mode resolution is quite low anyway but you issue sounds resolution related, setting it in safe mode should reset it in normal mode too (or used to)
I shall try that indeed, thanks
Still nothing I'm afraid. Again just getting to the windows logo, spending much longer than usual there, then screen cuts out.
Any more ideas? Cheers
If you have access to an external screen try plugging that in and usign the keyboard shortcut to switch the display.
Opps hows about a system restore?
Had already tried that 🙁
Vista is the biggest pile of cr*p to have ever been released.
Try booting to safe mode and uninstall the graphics drivers. Reboot and let windows install the default drivers. If that works then download and install the latest drivers.
