Has many people tried this EI suspension ? And what's your thoughts on it? . I'm looking at the 2016 zesty 527 and quite fancy trying this as I've read good reviews on it but be nice to get those out in the fields feed back.
I've never wrode a 2015 zesty / spicy but I've never had bad reports of there owners either. Coming from a Capra pro I fancy. Dealing with a lbs instead of direct again.
I've tried it, and to be honest it annoyed me for several reasons. If you race enduro or xc at the highest level then I guess it might be a tiny bit advantageous but the big con is that it doesn't really work much/any better than a well set up fork and shock. It's a gimmick to cover a badly designed bike. A really good set up will give you enough platform to pedal without excessive wallow, and still give you nice compliant suspension. EI is kind of no mans land, a lazy mans lockout if you will. It certainly didn't make me any quicker.
The other problem (maybe the main one) is that is oem only kit. Last I checked Fishers, the uk Rockshox distro don't list or keep any spares for them. You'll have to go through CRC/Hotlines. Who also don't keep any spares for them. So when they inevitibly shear the teeth off the little servo gear, as they all do, you'll have to go to your lbs, who'll go to Hotlines, who'll have to go to Lapierre to get them. And even if that's not during the two months of summer Lapierre are totally shut for business it'll still take ages.
Lastly, I think Lapierre's build quality is shocking, their bikes are overpriced fragile, snap happy pieces of shit with horrible suspension characteristics and when they do break their warranty process is a misery. if you're seriously thinking of buying one, just wait till CRC are punting them out at 50% off.
Thanks for your feed back jimjam . I thought the new models weren't as bad and build quality much better. I've had 2 Capra frames crack and are awaiting my 3rd, so was after trying so ring different from an lbs .
