I'm about 99% close to buying a 427, I just need some positive vibes from those who have ridden one for a few months now. Currently own a 4 year old Lapierre 314, 26" which is a fantastic bike and am struggling to see why I need a new one but the 427 does look great.
So go on, tell me the truth....the good, bad &the ugly!!
I have a 2010 314. Stick a CCDB Air on, makes it so much better. I got mine second hand.
Got one and love it, rides brilliantly but...
I did have to get a new rear triangle when the rear bushes wore away the frame. They sorted it on warranty, assured me I just got unlucky and did give me a demo 527 to try when it was away. So we shall see if it happens again, not heard of any others doing this though.
Yes...unlucky with the rear triangle, you have any issues with heal rub on chainstay?
I could chuck a load of cash at the 314 with rear and front shocks...but that could go towards a new steed???
No issues at all, as far as I know it was preproduction versions were too wide. I took precautions and helitaped the chain stays on the first rear triangle, but no issues so I haven't bothered with the new one.
Sounds positive then...any comments on the nic tyres, there seems to be love/hate debate on them and often the 1st thing changed on the 427 along with the Fox forks...err, also I've always run a triple chainset, how have you got on with the x2 set-up..ever "run-out" of gears?
Fox forks and tyres went straight away, though I tried the forks on the 527 demo and they weren't as bad as i thought they'd be*. Gears are spot on. Tyres were useless.
*This doesn't mean they were particularly inspiring...
Thanks for your feedback bloodsex...may I ask what tyres you went for as replacements?
Binned the nics off the bat, they are the crap performance compound, running HDs front and rear. Forks went right away as well so cannot comment in them. I've had no problems with the stays, helitaped them but no signs of rub. I find the bike climbs better with the shock in trail mode, just gives more grip. Bar, stem and single ring changed due to personal preference. I really like the bike, took a not of getting used to as different to the 5spot it replaced, finding it a really capable all rounder.
Sweet looking bike razor, thanks for the photo. Does the shock have a lock out facility in trail, I've not used a CTD shock/fork before? I guess the wheels are a decent build then? Cheers
Went from a 5 year old 314 to a new 427. Apart from issues with setting up the lev, I'm short so the cable movement is just enough,it's great fun. No issues with tyres in the wet or dry. The cdt settings are genius. Only issue is the brake squeal when wet.
No issues with heal rub but it's tight I do hit the stay every so often.
I had a trail king on the back and a Mavic Charge on the front. Trail king just got replaced by a Geax Goma (as yet unrated) and the front will probably be going soon as its coming to the end of its life. Will probably shove on a Hans Dampf or a Magic Mary season depending.
I have also replaced the brakes for XT's and the rear wheel for a halo - but this was because I broke the originals. The race face wheels are pretty good and despite conflicting opinions go up tubeless with yellow tape, valves and stand fluid. Although when I broke mine it proved impossible to get a RaceFace rim as there were none in the country.
Ctd has 3 modes, climb (pretty much locked out), trail (some pedal platform) and descend (no pedal platform). I've set up the shock so I can stay in trail most of the time and still use most of the travel. No troubles with the wheels, still running true, rims are a bit more narrow than I'd have liked but nothing I can't live with. Coming off shimano the brakes took a while to bed in but not had any problems with them.
Thanks for all the feedback, all is positive that the frame build and ride are sound (just a few tweaks for personal preference)....looks like I will be an owner of a 427 v soon..
