Hi,
Of to Lanzarote next week and just Robert off anyone had any experience of cycle hire? Was thinking of doing some road riding, ideally as part of a group of that's even possible in the covid world.
Any experience or advice would be appreciated.
Papagayo bikes I used they were good.
I’ve hired from and can recommend Evolution Bikes in Costa Teguise and Revution Bikes in Puerto del Carmen.
I have used papagayo and Roy's in Plays Blanc's. Both were fine, neither were maintained to my own standards (gears not indexing correctly, creaky bottom bracket etc). The creaky bottom bracket had to go back to be replaced which was annoying.
Take you own multi tool and spare tube and decent tyre levers and perhaps a puncture outfit. The saddle bags on all of the bikes I have hired have been shite. One mountain bike had an inner tube in the bag that had a Schraeder valve and the rim was drilled for presta so wouldn't have fitted.
For me the mountain biking from playa blanca was much more enjoyable than the road riding. There was nothing wrong with the road riding, nice surfaces and considerate drivers but there is some great off roading to be had (nothing technical just nice remote riding).
Do beware though, mine was set up euro brakes, which did cause me one minor spill
I picked up a 105 carbon road bike from a German hire shop for e25 for one day and had a lovely ride across the island, from the place I can't remember where we stayed in the far bottom west corner up over the main climb in the top East corner.
Didn't book. Take your own lid and shoes.
Were other small hire places, quality was much lower than in gran canaria or majorca
I didn’t have a great experience with Roy’s. Didn’t get the model I reserved, ended up with a much lower spec bike. Had to return it after a day as the freewheel seized.
Evolution bikes where really good last year, luckily right by our hotel, bike was ready when requested and serviced all ready to go....can’t remember the owners name but I found him through here years ago, he was a regular poster.
