Hi folks, I just wanted to point you all toward this event that I'm helping organise for next May.

http://www.evanscycles.com/ride-it/langholm-mountain-bike-ride-18th-may-2013

We are putting together a whole weekend of outdoor activities, walking, trail running, road cycling and mtb. Luckily Evans fell in love with our local countryside and jump on board to take care of all things biking.

just wanted to start getting the word out. We're working in a website and all that goes with it, as we speak.

I'd be very interested to hear what you guys would like to see at a weekend event. We're aiming to give out weekend a social flavour - we're currently looking to book talkers / films we can show. What's worked at events you've been to? What hasn't? What's all to often been missed out? Your ideas would be gratefully received.

yes, I thought this would come up but I don't think we have any local real ale - but we're going to be certain before we give up on that one. We do have a local ice-cream that's pretty top notch. How does an ice-cream van at the top of a grueling hill climb sound? (obviously not as good as a great pint, granted).

What about camping? We're looking at the local rugby club as a camp site - they should be able to offer us the changing rooms for showers, we'll be installing a number of portaloos, we're trying to get them to open the kitchen for cuppas and bacon. The whole site is over a river and accessible over one bridge only - which I think helps for security.

What else would you guys expect or like to see to make a weekend visit run smoothly and comfortably. And what would make you want to come again next year. And I suppose, what would be a great big no?

On the subject of the rugby club - would it not be cheaper to hire that place/ rope them in and give them a donation than to hire in loads of portaloos etc?

I'm kinda on the mtb trail side of things, I have to admit. So the 'event village' is being looked after by an other group of folks but I think I'm right in saying that the portaloos will be provided for, in part at least, by the council and as we'll only need a few to boost the rugby clubs facilities, it should be fairly cost effective. The site should have pretty much everything people would need for a comfortable, if not luxurious weekend but we want to make sure we improve anything we can.

Not only is it still going ahead but it's gaining speed and growing.

The site went live yesterday and though there's some tweaking on-going, it tells the story of what we've got planned so far.

I'm sure we'll be putting the word out in the coming weeks/months for opportunities to get involved and we'll certainly be very grateful for anyone who can spare the time.

Looks great; this is the best ale I know of in the Borders:

Guiding on local trails is a great way of learning new rides if you are not from the area.
There is quite a bit of sportive action around Newcastleton and Hawick this year (Tour O'the Borders, Ken Laidlaw and another 2-dayer); but good luck with the whole event - I'll certainly pass the news on in Gala and Kelso.

Howellj1 - Thanks for that. We're interested in getting some ales on the menu, without stepping on the toes of local pubs. We'll probably give those guys a shout and see what we can do.

Looks good - great to see something happening down this neck o' the woods too.

Great looking promo site too (though putting 2 & 2 together, I'm 99% sure I can guess why that might be...)

Good luck with it - happy to help spread the word, just gimme a shout.
JM
