You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've been tempted by a Landy for a long time, but was put off by the cost/noise etc... Have had a Subaru Forester for the past 2 years and it's great. 2 bikes in the back with wheels on with the seats down. Cruise at any speed - I sat at 115 down the autobahn for an hour in torrential rain with the car fully loaded. Have slept in the back at dusk2dawn as well. Will buy another when this one dies, although that may be some time. (140K miles on the clock and just passed the MOT, only needed a silencer box).
Permanent all wheel drive and same ground clearance as a freelander.
30MPG and ripe for LPG conversion.
Drives like a car, powerslides beautifully on icy roundabouts.
Is quiet and comfortable at speed.
Landy 90TDi here. Can get 2 x MTB's in the back or when the rack's on about 6 on the roof and 6 bods inside! It is cozy though!
The best bit is being able to get changed 'indoors' and being able to do a bacon sarnie or coffee in the back too. Top motors for MTB work. It also doesn't matter how dirty yours biuke is after a ride.
To be fair it's not great on motorways, but that is not what mine is for.
Exactly what Scootash says. Mine flew through its MOT this week 😀
I dont want to offend anyone- after all, its a car not you/your family etc. Unless you do alot of offroad work/live on a farm- why do you need a Defender?
Again, dont get offended- Im bitching about a car not a person. I bawk at the cost of Defenders, leggy mileage and Rover technology for the price.
I dont need mine at all. But I wanted one. And I love it. Much like we dont NEED 2 or 3 bikes, or 27 gears, or titanium frames etc. Its all personal preference!
No offence taken by the way!! 😛
mccett - Sounds brilliant! Any pics yet???
and none-meant 🙂No offence taken by the way!!
I had a 90 TD5 station wagon, and loved it. Every one's said what needs to be said about owning a defender - you either want one or you dont!
But, I found the 90 a bit too small, so chopped it in for a 110 Puma Utility. The extra space is great - can take four bikes and four people, two bikes and two people with loads of spare room, and any variation in between. The hardtop rear portion gives you a brilliant room for changing and sheltering, and a sleeping space if needed.
Parking is a bit of an art, and the turning circle is more like a planetary orbit, but the drive is so much fun overall that it's worth the cost and hassle.
If it's an option, I'd go for a 110 over a 90, but you wont regret a 90 either. Do it! Join the fold, and dont forget to wave and be waved at!
No 90 for me.
Looking for a late series 2a / early series 3. No VED, all the fun.
Hehehe
As a landrover nut with years of hassle behind me, don't do it if its your only car. If its your weekend plaything with the bikes then go for it! Sold my scudo JTD van and bought a car, boy do I miss the van for bike duties. The car will have to go, cant be bothered with racks and all that crap!
