In the spirit of not crossing Health Boards, and as I live in South Lanarkshire, I'm looking for some ride inspiration. I have loads of great road riding from the door, and have a wide variety of routes to call upon.

MTB wise, my 'local trails' are a 30 min drive to Mugdock and if going further afield I'll likely be in Argyll or Perthshire or similar.

I have rarely explored any MTB routes in the local area, generally as there doesn't seem to be much...but maybe that's just because I don't know them.

So, criteria being :

Ride contained within South and or North Lanarkshire
within 30 minute drive of East Kilbride area
ideally not country park mobbed with people.

any, sensible, ideas ?!

Check trailforks, loads of good stuff built up above Garrion bridge, and right along that clyde walkway. A few of my mates go (I canny be arsed driving to ride in weej) and reckon it's right good.

Chatelherault, clyde path out past new lanark, mibbe more gravel based that one.

Dangerously close to Wishy tho, a pretty boy like you would get passed aboot like an 80's mayfair.

There must be stuff out round Tinto area (no sure if that's same authority area.

nobeer - I actually had a look on Trailforks last night and there did seem to be a load along Clyde walkway area. Tinto is in the right area and seems to have a few too..

Chatelherault is only 15 mins drive away and I have never been ! Might go have an explore there Saturday am..

I second the suggestion for the Clydeside stuff. Some really good, short, techy trails down there. They tend to run extremely slick all winter but all good fun.

Chatelherault is okay but more of an XC or gravel bash.

thanks, given my propensity to fall off I'll probs go for an xc explore at Chatelherault - any route pointers ?

Their is a great loop round Bothwell Castle and Blantyre woods. Just xc stuff but mostly all Singletrack. If your driving from EK you can park at Blantyre train station and start the loop from their,I am more than happy to show you the loop

Haven’t been on MTB in ages so will go out on my own for a solo faff ride initially 😀

Good explore around some extremely muddy trails ! The stuff on the Bothwell side was fairly well surfaced and quite busy with walkers. Got lost a few times on the south side trails, some dead ends into fire pits and burnt out car debris 🙄. Good to get out, though looking at those I follow on Strava I think I was one of the few who made the effort to stay in local health board area ...

Late to this post. Chat has some good stuff; I coach there with the Colts most weekends and ride there for giggles also. And you've already discovered the Clydeside.

But- but: Mauldslie? Best kept secret. You want in on the action??

Cody, aye, keen to hear about Mauldslie - I remember doing a job there on the landfill 20yrs ago 😜

Have seen some of the stuff the Colts do at Chat (I coach with Riderz) so will probs give that area a whirl next weekend..
