Time for one of my irregular 'Where should I go? queries.
Off to The Lakes tomorrow (based in Keswick) for half-term week and will take the big bike. Might get a couple of small rides in (loop round Latrigg or a spin round Whinlatter) but also like to get a 'proper' ride in.
I know The Bash is an obvious route I've done a few times but after something different.
Thinking about getting an uplift to Honister Mine and working my way back to Keswick from there. Obviously going to involve of a bit of cheek looking at the OS map but I'm OK with that.
What are STW's recommended routes? Have done a loop round Coledale Beck / Sail / Rigg Beck before so would be OK with finishing down there but ideally would prefer something I've not ridden before.
Or is there something else from Keswick worth doing? Have already done Lonscale Fell, Skiddaw via Ullock and Coledale Beck > Rigg Beck.
All assuming the weather will let me ride up high next week...
TIA.
Grizedale onto whiteless pike?
Thanks. I'll have a look at that.
(bump)
North and south Whinlatter .. Up Grizedale Cragg Hill- Sail -Causey pike- Pub . Trail centre fun and mountains
Blencathra?
Long Borrowdale loop via Langstrath, Sprinkling Tarn,Sty Head and Seathwaite?
Definitely Blencathra west (Blease) to east (Scales fell) if not done before. Or off the back down over atkinson pike and the left bank of the glenderamackin to the bridge and over to descend mousethwaite Combe. In Borrowdale- stonethwaite up the West Bank of langstrath to the bridge and up stake, across to angle tarn and then esk hause- sty head- Seathwaite or esk hause direct to Seathwaite via grains gill.
A great alternative to rigg beck is up and over the saddle below sail, then down to Barrow and then braithwaite.
Barrow down to braithwaite is grass (green ice) though so best on a dry day
