Heading up on the Friday and staying at the foot of Blencathra. Looking for suggestions for a high mountain ride with some technical descending. Some of our riding buddies have been off the bikes for a few months so don't really want anything over say 20 miles or so. Any suggestions allowing for weather etc?
Thanks.
Has to be Ullock Pike. 'tis cheeky though.
From Blencathra, up the road to the centre then along to Skiddaw house then back along Lonscale fell. Nice 12 mile ish loop
From Keswick
Borrowdale bash Nice descent down to Rosthwait, great single track along to the bone shaking descent down castle crag.
Short drive away.
Helvellyn via Keppel cove zigzags, then back down sticks pass and onto Seldom Seen. (cheeky)
Not sure how much snow is left up Sticks though!
Thank you
Seldom Seen is baddass! 🙂
What NorthCountryBoy said plus also you could drive down to Hartsop in Patterdale and climb up past Hayswater onto High Street and ride the whole length of High Street and return via Howtown and along the edge of Ullswater. It's the longest high-altitude ridge ride in England, has fabulous views and the grassy, drop-offy descent from High Street is a lot of fun. The route along Ullswater is lumpy and rocky. It's about 22 miles with 3500ft of ascent.
Can I recommend? http://www.northerneyebooks.co.uk/neb/books/lake_district_mountain_bike_routes.php
Ok, I am biased!
I wouldnt be judging lakes riding in terms of distance really, more the terrain and climbing you are going to be doing.
From Threlkeld, cycle to st. Johns in the vale, carry up Sticks and descend to Greenside (or take Seldom Seen), Road to Dockray and the Old Coach Road ending in the long decent into Threlkeld.
Ullock would be a great call with Lonscale Craggs as a warm up, as would Blencathra itself.
Any pointers of a route up and down Helvellyn from Thirlmere / Grasmere side?
Quite happy to guide up Scruff its painful ! when are you heading over?
End of March just for one night & with the good lady though so no Man Love that weekend.
with descent do you want to do man of your capabilities and I would say Dollywagon 😯 get your other half to drop you off in Glenridding up Kepple Cove!
