Heading up in April for a Saturday night in the lakes. I'll be driving up early Saturday, riding from lunch time, camping with a pub dinner then a shorter Sunday morning ride.

Rosthwaite up to Angle Tarn, Styhead Tarn and Seathwaite for Saturday aftermoon. Any tips on this? I'm thinking it's short but big.

And the something for Sunday morning.

Any recommendations?

for Saturday aftermoon

What time does it get dark? Not many miles, but some verrry slow miles up Langstrath and Stake Pass.

Parking might be tricky in Rosthwaite at that time on a Saturday lunchtime, unless you're going from your campsite.

I think the new, improved, or at least fully legitimate Borrowdale Bash is a good morning or afternoon's worth.

That route up from Rosthwaite is decent, but nearly finished me off once. The valley up past Black Pot Moss is beautiful, but I found it pretty energy sapping riding, then it's pretty much hike-a-bike all the way up Stake Pass. I decided, spur of the moment, to include just popping down into Langdale via Stake Gill, then back up to Rosset Pike. "Won't take long", said I.

It did take long, it took bloody hours.

It was hot as all hell, with the tarmac melting on the roads back in Seathwaite. By the time I got to Styhead I'd completely ran out of water and food and ended up risking stream water. The descent down is a rocky hoot, but zero flow until it points down proper. Nadgey boulder fields make it hard work along the top half. Loved the descent but lost my front wheel on a slab 2 corners from the bridge, smashed my face in and ripped out my Reverb cable. Scooted back to Rosthwaite with a low seat and a bloody nose.

Would I do it again....yeah, probably would, actually.

Ha! We also dropped down and hiked back up Rosset, not sure it was worth it apart getting a look at the Rosset Gill descent, which is a no from me!

Bumped into 3 lads (eckythump of this parish), who were riding down Grains Gill but we stuck to the normal route. Definitely worth doing.

I've done this twice, once dropping down to Langdale and once traversing across to Angle Tarn from the top of Stake Pass.

I'll never do the langdale one again, it was a bit rubbish.

I'll probably not do the traverse one again either TBH. As above, and despite many happy memories of family swims and rides in Langstrath, I don't think it's worth it.

I'm very keen to ride Great End, and perhaps a hill or two towards Scafell, and then descend down the amazing bridleway from Esk House to Styhead etc. But I think this time around I'll hike up Grains Gill instead.

In terms of Day 2...

... I'm afraid I can't tell you as this ****ing piece of shit forum objects to something in the detailed list of options I typed in.

What's changed? Sorry, quote failed - what's changed about the Borrowdale bash?
