Confession - I've never ridden my MTB in the Lakes for 17 years*

Advice - Over from Thursday PM till Sunday AM so I have limited time as walking with the OH is also planned. Could I (riding from Keswick) crack in the Borrowdale Bash and then a lap of Whinlatter (from Keswick up to Forest in the car) in a day? Or should I just drag my backside out of bed earlier each morning and walk in the afternoons?

Got half an eye on the time of year and sunset's, don't want to be out in the dark.

*I should probably hand in my membership right now and leave I know, I've just always taken the road bike for big days out.

Time-wise you'll be fine, the bash is probably 3-4h depending on fitness and speed so if you're out by 9 there should be plenty of time for Whinlatter.

Yes. Bash is about 15-16 miles, Whinlatter I think about 11 if you miss the blue. If you're worried about time, why not head across from the bottom of Catbells direct to Whinlatter, have lunch at the cafe, then return down the bridleway towards Keswick when you're done? Saves loading/unloading/changing in between etc.

Depends on fitness/eagerness- hilly terrain might mean you enjoy to separate days more. It’s absolutely possible.

yes you could. You probably will not enjoy the ride up to whinlatter after the bash though.
If I were you I'd park in Braithwaite or anywhere that end. Start the ride from there, up Walla crag first and then the bash as usual then just load the bike in the car and drive up to whinlatter.

Miles are bigger in the lakes! We did the bash with the loop out to Threlkeld earlier in the year and it was a full day.

Thanks all. The forecast is looking decent as well!

Was planning to drive up to the visitors centre and start Whinlatter from there, reason being the bike will be travelling back home in the caravan and a bike wash would be useful. I must replace the roof bars I have that only fit my previous cars.

The cafe in Portinscale always gets my custom, so a visit there will be a lunch break before heading back to Keswick to take the car.

We did the borrowdale bash on Sunday, our moving time was 2 hours 8 mins, think it took around 3 hours including stops, I'd say you should be fine to do that and whin latter in a day.

Managed most of my plan, knees were giving me some grief after some rock action behind Castle Crag. Perfect day weather wise.
