Hey , just a quiet route advise please.
Route starts standard Bash with Walla cragg start , drop into Seatoller , now this is the part im looking for advise on . Up Honister to the mine and over to Dale head then High Spy Maiden and off the rear of Cat Bells , or is there a way before castle Cragg to gain the Height up to High Spy. cheers
There's a footpath before Castle Crag up into the col between Dale Head and High Spy. It would be a push all the way.
Thanks for that , would I be better going to the mine and head right to Dale head or am I destined for 30 minutes of shouldering 😉 not that the latter is uncommon in the Lakes
From Honister you can either carry up to the top of Dale Head and then descend to Dale Head Tarn, or halfway up the climb head right over toward the tarn and miss out the Summit of DH.
Alternatively, miss Honister and climb up through Rigg Head Quarries and summit High Spy from there.
My preference would be straight to Dale Head tarn from Honister.

The path from Dale Head down to the tarn was 'repaired' about a year ago - super-tricky to get down the whole thing now without bailing onto the grass. As Lowey says it's the better option if you don't like to carry - the path through Rigg Head is a steep slog.
Hause Gate down to Manesty is the best end descent (rather than down to Little Town).
Thanks the pair of you Lowey ive stolen the gpx 😉 Parkedtiger I cant see Hause gate on the os map , am i missing something ?
The col between catbells and maiden moor is hause gate. I would also push 2/3 up dale head then take the traverse around to the tarn- dale head descent doesn’t do much for me. I love the riding from high spy to hause gate though.
Cheers Tom much clearer now fingers crossed the skys are when I do it
