Its that time again i come in search of a cheeky GPX for a run around Fairfield Pike , looks like a ride /hike up from the Keswick side of Grasmere past Grisedale tarn and just up, returning back by the looks of it by Nabscar and ALcock tarn
Is that a viable route /
cheers
Mostly ride up next to Tongue Gill above Grasmere, hike a bike from near Hause Gap, down to Lord Crag where an umarked path heads off direct to Alcock (visible on aerial photos).
done martinhutch's route once, we normally go from ambleside and turn left at the top of scandale pass, you spend a bit more time riding accross the tops. then drop down to alcock.
planning on doing it as soon as the nice weather returns.
had a nice little ride last week up nab scar from rydal(well a push up really) and down via alcock.
Did the route described by Martin last Wednessay night. It's a stiff ascent but the downhill and if you are lucky the views make it worth it.
Yeah, up past Grisedale tarn is a pig of a carry, but the descent from Fairfield and down to Alcock Tarn is totally worth it.
If you’re feeling daft you could climb up birkside and descend dollywagon, then head up Fairfield and descend past alcock tarn, before climbing up tongue gill to grisedale tarn, carry up dollywagon then descend birkside. Now that’s a fun day 😂
the time i did it up tongue gill the final push up was in the cloud, could barly see 10' and it was blowing a gale so much the bike kept getting blown into my legs. luckily the first bit of descent was straight into the wind once i had eventually found the path.
that time i had a look at the stone arthur way down which was ok but not as good as the alcock one.
Cloud you say...
we where thinking about going up there for our tuesday night ride but forcast isn't looking the best at the moment. its going to get to the point soon we are just going to have to say sod the weather we're doing it.
