Mrs S is heading to the lakes this weekend to ride her road bike with a lady friend.

As all of my lakes knowledge involves off road routes or crags can anyone recommend a route for them to do that:

1. Has a lunch or cake stop halfway round
2. Is in the 40-60 miles range (depending on hills)
3. Doesn't involve stupidly busy roads?
4. Can be done from Ambleside area.

Cheers,

S

Head to Hawkshead down east side of Grizedale Forest to Bouth (pub stop) round to Spark Bridge, up the East side of Coniston Water to Coniston then back to Ambleside. Not too hilly and probably as quiet as you are likely to get from Ambleside.

Ambleside>Skelwith Bridge>Langdale valley>Blea Tarn (25%)>Wrynose (25%)>Ulpha Valley>Hoses (20%)>Broughton Mills>Broughton (good cafe stop)>Torver>Coniston (ice cream)>Hawkshead Hill>Drunken Duck>Brathay>Ambleside

Well good route, a few climbs and some nice cafes/pubs in the mix

White Hart at Bouth is a good pub, but I'd push on to Spark Bridge, where the Royal Oak does very good food. Game pie yum yum!

Join at Far Sawrey, just a few miles out of Ambleside and it heads S and W into some lesser known gems
