Anyone know if it's possible (without taking a ridiculously long time or involving loads of road) to do a ride that starts at Brothers Water and takes in Gaburn Pass and Nan Bield? Or is a Staveley start the only decent route? Also, any good suggestions for a 3-5 hour ride from Brothers Water, maybe taking in Sticks Pass or something. We like natural trails, big mountains, tech stuff, don't mind hike-a-biking. Ta for any tips.

Unless you are used to big Lakes days I'd say Brothers Water is the wrong place to start but ...

Up to Boredale Hause, Angletarn, High Street, down to Nan Bield, down to Kentmere, up Garburn, at the top turn right and head back to High Street skirting the first three fells on the west via faint tracks. Either return via Angletarn and Boredale Hause or drop down from the Knott but I've no idea what the latter is like to ride.

Whitestone - Cheers for this. Done plenty of big (and some very very big) Lakes days but I'm not after an epic this time, so perhaps I'll stick with Staveley if your route is a monster. Don't suppose you'd happen to know the approximate distance/height gain for that route? No worries if not.

Dunno exactly but roughly 30km and at least 1600m of ascent.

Doing the classic NB and Garburn descents is slightly tricky as both end up at the same place.

From Staveley I'd go over Green Quarter to Longsleddale, up to the top of Gatesgarth, cheeky up over Harter Fell and down to Nan Bield, down to Kentmere. Round by High Borrans and Dubbs reservoir to the far side of Garburn, up and over Garburn then once back in Kentmere you can either head up from the Hall and descend Three Rivers or up on to Green Quarter and then down through the woods (forget the name of this trail).

Ah, cheers, that just about makes it a possibility, in fact. I'll look into it. Thanks again for your help.
