Me & the Mrs will be in Keswick 9/10th Sept and then in Pooley Bridge 11/12 & 13th. The otherhalf is expecting so she will be relaxing, I was planning to ride as much as i can get away with. Hoping to do the borrowdale bash at some point, but happy to ride anything (not Whinlatter)

Done the techy path on the edge of Ullswater & would like to ride this again from Pooley Bridge but open to suggestions?

Whats wrong with Whinlatter!! It was great having it at the end of the road 🙂

I will be at Pooley Bridge on the 9th and could possibly be getting a pass for an early ride 😆 I was just going to pop over to Whinlatter, not been for about a year or so.
Another short option was Keswick to Threlkeld. Up to the YHA and then blast back down via Latrigg followed by coffee and cake.

I'll be in pooley bridge area for a week from the 8th. I was considering Whinlatter on the 9th but not finalised any plans yet as I have some mates that are hard to pin down. I did start a thread a couple of days ago which you might be interested in looking at:

Cheers for the replies. L

Mike I will be staying in Pooley from tuesday onwards so looks like i will miss the "fun ride" 🙂

Trekster & Swingbing i did whinlatter earler this year, so reluctant to go back when there is so much natural stuff to ride. Think i will stick with Borrowdale bash on the 9th. Your welcome to join me if you decide against whinlatter.

Happy to ride later in the week from Pooley, got a few routes in mind as i am sure you have.

Wil drop you both a mail with my number so you contact me, i am flexible with times, early or late no worries.

Cheers Bo`stupid, got your mail.
Do you know what time you plan to set off for the `Bash? I had planned an early-ish start, get back to take MrsT for lunch around 1.... 😀
We are only down for the weekend+Mon.

Understandable. I live just an hour or so away so can do it any old time. Being on my own it was just a quick fix 😉 Not having been for a while I was thinking some erosion due to this years heavy rain may have changed the character a bit 😉 Certainly has on some bits of my locals 🙂

The 'Bash' is in great condition. The weather doesn't bother the proper route much anyway. There's a few cheeky sections that are not so good in the wet though! Last week, some of the drainage ditches had more or less filled up with loose stone too. 😀

What should I expect from "the bash"? Excuse my ignorance, not an area I'm too familiar with. Got your mail thanks BoardStupid. Looks like my other mates are pulling out so if you and Trekster are doing the bash on Sunday, perhaps I can persuade the guy I'm riding with that we should tag along.

Pooley bridge suggestion ride to Roehead and then onto Askham moor. Ride past the cockpit and then down to Howtown. Back along the road. Easy and fun.

Here's one description. It really is a Lakes classic, taking in some great views (on a clear day) and brilliant, rocky descents.
Trekster - You'll have to set off pretty early if you want to be back for 1'o clock. I can do it in less than two and an half hours...that's without stopping and no puctures/mechanicals though. If there are any problems, anyone's stopping to take pics or mincing the descents, it will take a lot longer.

Good description that d45yth..just doesn`t do the Ashnes or Honister climbs justice ❗ 😕 Do you go up the Honister or take the hike up from Seatoller? I usually go to the top of the pass and hang right after the cattle grid.

Was thinking that, usually a 4hr trip with all the stopping to take in the veiws, mincing down the rocky bit after Watenlathe etc.

Might end up doing this;

I go through the gate at Seatoller, it's a lot more interesting than doing the tarmac climb. At the start I head up to Walla Crag rather than following the Borrowdale road too (it cuts out a lot of road and adds another great descent that way). I've seen maps on here where folk have done that, but went up Chestnut Hill and towards the stone circle...I'm not saying the proper/best way up there, but that's not it!).
If you go to Pooley Bridge, you've got to do the Lake path instead! The other suggested route is supposed to be 'easy and fun'? That's a bit of an oxymoron isn't it? 😆

Thanks for the info D45yth, think i will head up to Walla Crag do the great descent you mention and keep of the road. 🙂

Trekster i do suspect this will be a 4 hour ride and understand you have limited time, i am happy to start out for 8ish if that helps, and you really want to do the ride. If you cant make it i will be heading out around 9ish.

Swingbing, keep me posted you have my number, any thoughts for later in the week?

YGM, forgot to say that the start point on the map is free parking. Can get busy but won't be a problem early on.

I'm definitely going to be taking in the low 'technical' track along ulswater and probably take up some of those suggestions from the other thread. I'll see what my riding buddy thinks. I reckon we'll probably tag along for this ride on sunday, I'll speak to him on Friday and let you know.

Just got in from my first nighttime blast around the monkey trail at Cannock. Great fun. Off to go and collapse now!

See you on Sunday.

Sure is.
Not sure of the road name but if you are heading to Keswick from the M6 miss the first exit to the left and carry on to the roundabout and go left. Pool access road is near the garage on the left a few hundred yards after the roundabout.
If you carry on straight ahead you come to a T junction, turn left for town centre. Keswick Mountain Bikes new shop is also on the town centre road. 😀

You could do worse than have a look at everyone's favourite mountain bike club's website for plenty of routes boggies

Punctures usually occur just before the gate that the biker is holding open. Nice cafe stop just after that section at Grange
D45yth....what route up onto WallaCragg? Via Castle rigg or Brockle Beck?

Ended up Kayaking that Sunday. Later in the week we did a slog up to and along high street. The weather came down and I got so cold I was wearing carrier bags on my hands on the way down!

Best ride was along the side of the lake on the 'low' bridleway, around place fell, a carry up to boredale hause the a ride over to and down place fell. Some really great technical bits.

Also did Whinlatter on my tod on thursday. Good fun and got round in double quick time after all the "proper" riding I'd done last week!

The Boredale bash was all it's cracked up to be then?
