Can anyone recommend an overnight parking spot at or nearish Watendlath? Need to leave a couple of vehicles there for one night. Wondered about up at Surprise View, beyond Ashness Bridge? Don't mind paying, but I think the official car parks forbid overnighting. Cheers.
No one?
There's a parking spot just up from the junction of the Borrowdale/watendlath road that gets used by climbers for Falcon Crags, that might be legit. There's also some parking past surprise view where climbers park up for Reecastle Crag.
Most of the Lakes car parks seem to issue tickets up to midnight to prevent overnighting.
whitestone - cheers for this. Useful tips. What about the bottom of Bowderstone descent - is that a small unofficial car park? I can't remember.
You are on the main road there so likely to attract attention both legal and unwanted.
Aye, fair point. Cheers again.
bottom of Bowderstone descent
Not official no and very near the road. More space a bit further on at the foot of Frith Wood. Just over the cattle grid at the start of the Watendlath road (Falcon Crag as mentioned above)
It adds distance, but in edge of Keswick?
boxelder - cheers. So that's the start of the climb up to Ashness?
matt - cheers, bit too far in the wrong direction. Ta though.
Here's the one at the start of the road to Ashness/Watendlath: http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=326950&Y=520305&A=Y&Z=120
The Reecastle one I mentioned: http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=327085&Y=517672&A=Y&Z=115
You used to be able to park here: http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=325672&Y=517652&A=Y&Z=115
Frith Wood: http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=325624&Y=515832&A=Y&Z=115
whitestone - that's great, and much appreciated. Official car parks always say no overnights, and I'm not sure how much they police it so don't really want to take the risk.
You could always leave the cars in Grange, then it's handy for a (presumably post multi day ride) tea and cake stop?
honey - not a bad idea. We were trying to avoid any extra climbs really - hence Watendlath or that elevation would be ideal. This might work though. Saves us a climb on day two. Ta.
