In the Lakes for a week and have only rode here once before, plans to ride
Whinlatter
A loughrigg loop
A Skiddaw loop
Also any tips/things to do on non ride days would be much appreciated
Maybe an hours walk/hike with pub lunch somewhere
Ta
I would have had one but my computer's give up the ghost. Have a look on Gpsies.com.
Can you recommend one?
The hills look pretty big and one wrong turn/decent could end in a stupid amount of Hike/bike
As above, get an OS map to help.
Where are you based, it will effect recommendations for your walk/pub request?
centralscrutiniser, that my friend is perfect. Thank you.
Happy to drive anywhere to get to a good walking location. We're based halfway between Ambleside and Windermere
Not really sure what good walking is,but after some nice views lol
That Grizedale/Parkmoor route looks just the job. I am also going to be visiting the area next week (family staying at Windermere) and will be taking the mtb. Don't have a gps but I will keep an eye on this thread anyway.

A quick walk with a good view.
And with (moving) pictures:
parkamoor descent to nibthwaite is a cracking descent, did it for the first time last week. climbed it in daylight, came back down in the dark. will do it again in daylight sometime although will probably be slower when i can actually see whats coming up.
+1 for that descent. It's great fun.
Easedale tarn from grasmere, loop up and back on the 2 obvious paths, would fit the bill for a pleasant hour's walk.
I think this is one of the best rides from Grizedale trail Centre
Up to Parkamoor and down to Nibthwaite toughest downhill in Grizedale
then left and left again up Bletherbarrow Lane and down Off road to High Ickenthwaite - great fast downhill
Road to Satterthwaite
Turn right Up and over Breasty Haw to road (great technical trail)
, then left up the road slightly then right down single track to Eel House and on to Near Sawrey, Lunch at Tower Bank Arms (really excellent single track after half way).
up Bridleway to Claife Heights past the tarn and then hang a left down to Colthouse, (super fast downhill)
Into Hawkshead on road and either up the Bridleway (or road via Roger Ground) to Moor top and down the last (and best) bit of the North Face... Ultimate day out!
This misses the Fox downhill (which is superb) but you could swap that for the Breasty Haw downhill with a bit of fire road (Breasty Haw is great anyway).
You'll need a map though.

Or a GPX. 😉
Halfway between Ambleside and Windermere is around troutbeck. Go west for Jenkins Crag towards Ambleside - and a great loop around Loughrigg, iron Keld hodge close and chapel stile (link the bridleways in any combo for excellent fun!) go east for Garburn pass, Kentmere valley and maybe even the Nan Bield loop if you fancy a BIIG day out! All available from your doorstep! You will have a ball!

Or you can type in the co-ords from brilliant directions!
I'm on holiday so no time to type.
Pushed up Sliddaw today then off the edge of the mountain down to ulock pike with the misses.
Needless to say she now thinks the person who recommended the ride is a Tw*t and my ears have taken a beating.
Is the grizedale/parkamooe route all rideable?
.
You should be OK on that one SOAP. The last rock strewn descent might get you a mouthful of abuse, apart from that I reckon it's pretty good riding.
Parkamoor down is amazing, but there are a couple of vicious rock gardens.. but they're short.. Over Bletherbarrow Lane is a tough up on the road but the downhill to Ickenthwaite is super fast and not too technical so easily rideable.
Well I tackled the Grizedale to Parkamoor route yesterday. No GPX files or SO 😈
Was a tough day, with some pretty steep climbing in places and plenty of rain for the Parkamoor descent.
The highlight of the day for me though was the [s]cornish pasty and cup of tea at the end[/s] descent to Force Gill. Really enjoyed that one as it suited me and the bike nicely 8)
The worst part of the day was the exceptionally steep descent from Breasty Hoe, not sure how I survived "the steepest descent in Grizedale" to be honest. It's not quite in the XC category despite it's bridleway status (first time I've ever had my saddle as low as it will go)!
Only got a couple of pics before it lashed down.

You weren't parked in Whinlatter car park in the afternoon were you?
Bike looks like one on top of car I parked next to.

Not me. I was at Whinlatter the day before, but bike lives in the car. Never seen anyone else with a Lucky Strike to be honest so be strange if there were two at the same time 😯
It's when you see those type of views that you remember why you go mountain biking.
Walks... If you're around Troutbeck, walk over Wansfell from there, down to Ambleside for pub/food, then back via Jenkin's Crag.
Rode it today Mrs loved all of it and it was the best ride of the holiday.
Thanks all for some good pointers

😀 Excellent news SOAP. I was concerned that I'd be branded a t**t by your better half.
Glad it was enjoyed!
😀
On it Saturday!
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm in the Lakes this weekend and planning a Grizedale ride having never ridden in the Lakes.
SOAP, I assume you did the Edge Cycleworks route posted above? You obviously enjoyed it!
Also can anyone comment if the bigger Cycleworks route, that looks similar, with a northern extension is worth ago?
fathomer, I'm in the lakes this weekend too, fancy that grizedale route on sunday early doors? I'll email you.
may be busy around grizedale on sunday, if i've got my dates right there's an enduro event on. not sure if it will have any affect on that route though.

That's a great day out. In my view though, you're better descending the Parkamoor/Nibthwaite bit, then climbing/pushing back up it (most of it is rideable), before heading round to the right on the track and taking the BW descent to Satterthwaite (Dad/Grandad/Dentist) direct. The road climb towards the Ickenthwaite descent is a bit of a pig, for not much off-road reward, and a lot of road descent.
On the Claife side, I'd also do the Cuckoo Brow Lane climb for the fun descent to the lakeside track, but that's splitting hairs really.
Enduro won't be on any of the ROW so you'll be fine
