Anyone recommend a good place to stay/camp up in the Lake District that's MTB friendly? Stayed at Plas Curig in Snowdonia and wondered if there was anything similar up that way.

Cheers

Borrowdale YH, can camp there too IIRC, and great riding from the doorstep. All the YH that I've stayed in the Lakes have been great actually.

Both YH in Ambleside & Keswick good, the Ambleside one had a fortune spent on it a few years ago & have bike lock up facilities or if going b&b try Pitcairn in Keswick really friendly couple Steve & Heather.

Most of the Lakes YHA's are 'mtb friendly', imo the best one is Hawkshead.
There's a dedicated camping area at the side with pods & a round cabin type thing, there's also a decent amount of parking. You're right next to some brilliant trails in Grizedale & Hawkshead is about 1 mile away where most of the pubs do good food.

When are you planning on going? The problem you may have is that a fair few yha's are closed over winter.

Also check with each individual yha what their bikestore is like- bring a good lock. Ambleside yha bikestore is just a garden shed..

Better to post some more details- preferred area's, size/age of group, etc..

Another YHA recommendation from me. We've stopped at YHAs at Borrowdale, Keswick and Hawkshead, they've all got bike lock ups and a bar.

There's a private hostel called Thorney Howe (or similar) near Grassmere -supposed to be good.

Magg's Howe at Kentmere. A rough and ready camping barn but with good breakfast in the farmhouse if you want it.
