Anyone ridden Lakes recently and able to tell me roughly where the snow line is and what the riding conditions are like? Interested in getting high as poss, Helvelyn etc, tho not til next weekend. Just wondering what the chances of a thaw are if there's tons of snow there now. Also, what about that long descent from honnister quarry up above the visitor centre back to buttermere - snow on that right now? Ta v much.

I would avoid any Southern faced slopes (descending) due to soft snow but Esk Hause to Styhead was excellent on Saturday,Helvellyn and stcks pass was very full with soft powder on Monday and not good to ride on the Eastern side.If you really want to do Helvellyn in the snow you really have two options, Via Great Dodd longer but a nicer climb, or shorter via Keppel cove, and descend via either route.Avoid the Dollywagon descent/climb as its very icy, I did that on Friday!!..lol
