Want to go next weekend with a friend coming to visit. What are the conditions like atm?

Also, need to hire 1 or maybe 2 full suss bikes but the Bike Bothy at Wolftrax is closed. Any recommendations for bike hire around there?

Guessing Aviemore might be your closest for hire

I've not been but the trails up here near Aviemore are generally pretty wet at the moment. They do tend to dry out quick given the right combination of sun and wind but it's looking damp for the next few days.

Try the Wee Bike Hub in Kingussie for bike hire? Bothy Bikes are also in Kingussie now but I don't know if Dave will have any FS hire bikes.

The trail centre trails at Laggan were lovely a couple of days ago. They are pretty all-weather though so should resist getting muddy. There was a wee bit of ice on the forestry road climbs but no standing water/ice on the upper red or Air's rock.

We didn't make it over to the brown side so can't comment on that.

Cheers @euain. I've just been doing the bearings/suspension on the Occam so Wolftrax might be a handy test ride.

Wee Bike Hub doesn't have any full suss, nor does Aviemore bikes 😔 Can't get hold of the Bike Bothy in Kingussie yet 🤞

That came around quickly! Only hardtails available, but hey, that's what we all used to ride right?

Will all of this "weather" have made things impassible? Got to say, am a little bit worried about icy slabs of rock!

I remember the 1st time at Laggan 27thDec 2004 it was damp and cold, getting out of a warm car after 85 miles with the only cd in my car being dear catastrophe waitress by Belle & Sebastian was a tough call but it was such a great day until 4pm it was too dark to do the red again. I was fit back then and my son was a grumpy 12 year old on the climb up really got in the bike that day

The demo days were great for doing the black on a Cove Hustler or what ever else was on the go. It's never been overcrowded and great all year round

Haven't been up there for maybe 10 years now, hoping others still use it and appreciate how good it is

We were there on Sunday. A light dusting of snow, only holding on in the shade. Trails were 99.9% ice free. A noticeable slab of ice at the left/right split between the upper red/black climb and the lower red loop. Small patches where water pools/flows on the trail, but ridable.

A considerable amount of ice on one of the rock garden chute things on the new red decent. Ridable, but sketchy. Patches on Cub's Clart. No ice of note on the Black.

Airs Rock was in the sun (!), frost free and grippy.

By the time we left the thaw was softening the surface of the trails where exposed to the sun. A bit of grey dirt spraying up onto riders/bikes.
