Me and my 7 yr old lad have ridden the Fairholmes to Slippery Stones loop a few times and for a Sport Relief challenge to rinse his family of a few quid I've suggested we do the whole loop including down to the viaduct. Only question is what's the going like for the permissive path (cheeky rules permit 7 year olds) that runs below the road from the A57 up to Fairholmes on the western side of Ladybower? The alternatives are of course the road and the pavement but I've never walked or biked on the path myself.

surely the alternative is out and back on the road/track on the eastern side?(local cars/disabled fisherfolk only - locked gates unusual to meet a vehicle and drivers are very cautious)

Steps halfway along and actively discouraged by Severn Trent. You're better going the other side - it's fine for a 7 yo

I echo Pook's comments.

There are a huge set of steps part way down, Severn Trent are not happy at all about cyclist being on there and no cheeky rules do not permit 7 year olds.

Thanks all,

We want to do a proper loop (clockwise) rather than double back and I'm familiar with the rest of the route. The standard of driving on the road up to Fairholmes on a Sunday (and parked cars) says we'll use the footpath/pavement at the side of the road.
