I did almost that exact route the other week. You’re definitely doing it in the wrong direction. Depends how fit you are but I personally found it quite a big day!

Oi Couchy, reverse that route then!

Assuming you reverse it then when you cross the dam you should turn left instead of right. Through Thornhill and Aston on the road then turn right up to Hope Brink and up to Hope Cross that way. Then down Potato Alley and follow your route.

What day are you going? Someone local might offer to guide. It's a decent sized ride but agree with the comments about direction.

Friday we're playing. I'm up on Thurs night staying in a hotel. Our choice was a day out on an Adventure or a trip to Sherwood Pines. He's got the love for a bit of an adventure (on his e-bike) so i'm up for some of that 🙂

It’s a good route (if you do the extra bit up Hope Brink) with some great descents - far superior to Sherwood Pines IMO. There is free parking on the road at the Yorkshire Bridge Inn (just make sure you’re in a marked bay), then you can just pop over the dam to start.

Enjoy!

Having not done this route think we'll be going to Sherwood pines for the day which is my local or a route I have from Baslow, Derbyshire which I know, I'll try this ladybower route before some time

It's not difficult to follow and way better than Pines. Go for it unless the weather is really diabolical.

If you reverse it then I think you also need to change the bit just south east of the 1 on your map. Otherwise you'll be doing that shit fireroad descent o lladybowrr when you could do the one further north that is really good.

Shit description I know.

The bit from the dam wall over Ashopton Road and round to point A on your map, what type of right of way is that? 🤔
I think you will be pioneering a new route there...😀

As the generalist says, once you have reversed it you need a far better descent back to ladybower. I'd suggest the one that runs past Lockerbrook Heights to Ouzelden Brook (back of Gores farm).

Its on here...

Hopefully this link will work. Your amended route should basically the same ending as this one

Good man Blackflag, thanks for that detail. As you say, Locker room descent is the one he needs.

🙂

I did this one the other week and it was great I thought. Personally I thought it was a hard ride and was pretty knackered and aching. Glad I didn’t to the 27m option.

Not looked at your route so apologies if the same/similar. I just downloaded it to my Wahoo Bolt and followed it.

I really like Sherwood too but this was very very different to that, very rocky, great fun and I found it pretty challenging in spots too (I’m pretty crap though). But it is the Peaks v what is a tame trail centre route. I’d do it before the winter kicks in.

Wait!
You're considering going to Sherwood Pines, rather than a Ladybower ride?

Thanks all, pines is local and tbh it's more a social event with mates than a mtb ride but if weather is good we'll head up to the peaks as it's a shame to miss a ride there 😉

I'm not in charge. He is. I'm going wherever he takes me. It's all time out in the bike either way.
I've only been to Pines once, but really enjoyed it, thought it was ace.

I've done long days out too and really enjoyed them as well.

Pines is fun as you can do a timed run on an easy fixed route, there’s some good off piste and a small jump zone for practising the back flips...Same as any trail centre it’s more like a Trackday as it’s a man made fixed environment. Peaks is different as it’s more a ride in beautiful countryside and not a timed blast round a track. Both have a place for me and both serve a purpose. Either way I’m out in my bike and not at work 👍

Not ridden this part of the peaks but drew this route out on my planner,

That bit between Yorkshire Bridge and Cutthroat Bridge is a cheeky, isn't it?

Is that actual rideable? As on OS Map it looks a bit woolly...

Cheers!
I.
