Over to France for a very tough stage today, the Queen stage of this years Vuelta.

[img] [/img]

Inrng has his preview over here. I'd expect to see a tough pace set by Movistar and then Quintana and Froome battling it out for the win.

Sorry for the short one, busy morning!

And it's on TV from pretty much the start. Couple of nasty crashes on the first descent.

Looks like it's sky putting the work in today. Break not being allowed much time. On the Col du Soudet now (or Pierre Saint Martin as it's known when the Tour go up it.) Nice place for Froome having gone very well up it in the Tour. Someone tweeted that he's got a big black arrow pointing at it on his stage profile, surely much too far out for any sort of big move.

Hear Gilbert has pulled out. Anyone know what's up?

Good work by Movistar to get Moreno in the break too and make Sky ride for this.

Orica on the attack. Yates has gone out front, a bridge for Chavez perhaps?

Yates still in front of the other GC guys. Nice to see Movistar finally do some work.

Winner from the break?

Where's Valverde? What is it about him and French mountain stages?

No idea who's going to win this one. Probably not the GC group now unless they go bonkers. Yates in a great position to try for the stage.

Gesink for me, can't see anyone else catching them. Yates will put some time into GC as well.

Cracking stage for OBE here, Yates and now Chavez on the mix. Great tactics for them too.

C'mon Froome! Attack! I know you've just ridden a bunch of mountains but I've been on my sofa for hours watching this.

Gesink. Hell of a day's riding.

Is it wrong I now really, really want to ride that stage? Looks awesome, brutal, but awesome.

Good stage that. Good win for Gesink, he's been close on a few stages. Advantage Froome in the GC. Though Sky had to do a lot of work all day while Movistar mostly sat back and watched with Moreno up the road. Wonder if Movistar were deliberately resting Valverde ahead of tomorrow's stage?

Lunge, Aubisque looked fantastic, let's go ride it right now 🙂

As I look outside at rainy Birmingham and contemplate a wet ride round the Worcestershire countryside tomorrow, that is a very tempting offer!

I've done Marie Blanque followed by Aubisque, on a blisteringly hot day.

I suffered. I'd turned white at the top apparently, distinct lack of hydration. I needed Coke and ice cream at the top to revive me.

I've been in the Pyrénées for the past fortnight and it's been blisteringly hot. I was staying at the foot of the Aubisque this week but had to leave yesterday lunchtime for the ferry home gutted I couldn't see the end of this stage.

I rode the Aubisque from Arlgles Gazost via the Col de Spandelles and back via the Col des Borderes on Wednesday and I would say it as probably the best road bike ride I've ever done. Not the longest or the hardest but it was just one of the those perfect days and the route is so much better and quieter than the standard route although it adds another 1000m of climbing its worth it. The descent from the Spandelles is like a single lane road in the dales except it drops 1000m. The climb to the Aubisque is amazing once it opens up.
