So was out on the trails today, dropper was working fine for first 30 minutes or so. Quick climb with post at full extension, no issues. Next descent, no response to trigger press, post jammed solid. Carried on with ride, tried again post drops about 20mm (should be 125mm).
Finished ride off, and checked when back at trail head. No sign of damage, seals around seat post look fine. Was able to drop the post about 40mm but it feels like it's striking something in the frame/seat post housing.
Plan is to go to LBS on Tuesday (working tomorrow) but just wondered if anyone had any thoughts??
Have you over tightened the seatpost clamp.
I had a LEV do similar.
Looked like one of the brass keys had come out the slot and jammed it up.
Fixed under waranty in around a week.
No, seat clamp is the same as when fitted by LBS about 3 months ago. Had a long chat with them about that at the time. They mentioned about not adjusting the clamp as it would cause issues if over tightened.
Its been faultless since I've had it and was fine before heading out today
Does the lever feel normal? IME most issues with KS posts are cable setup rather than the post itself (Lev is a bit more complicated for this obviously)
@singlespeedstu, it's still under warrantee so hoping it will be a quick fix/swap out.
Preferably the latter as have got plans for later this week!
@Northwind, I agree about the lever. Paid extra for the Southpaw option, and again LBS said that it should have about 5mm of slack in it. To me this is a bit odd as the lever rattles like s b*****d when riding.
I don't have hte southpaw but with the stock lever I have no slack, in fact I think I have it slightly preloaded.
Looked at the stock trigger but it felt a bit flimsy.
Went for the Lev for reliability over the Reverb Stealth (recommendations from friends and LBS) so a bit disappointed.
Actually, thinkingabout it, the slack in the trigger is a bit worse than it was after installation! To start with it didn't need full engagement but now (well up to this morning anyway) it needed a full press to operate.
Wonder if the cable has stretched too far and the mechanism is no engaging properly?
If the cable has got too slack the post wont actuate- is there an inline barrel adjuster?
@swanny853, yep, just checked that and adjusted it. Post now drops (yay!!) but return is very slow and making what can only be described as a "farting" noise!
Can you wind it out a bit more? You've gone too far if it wont stay up under load. Iirc levs sometimes get a bit sticky if left for a bit, can you cycle it a few times and see if that helps?
If the cable's only just actuating the dropping mech then it'll run slow and sometimes erratic- try tightening the cable still further (or just pull some loose cable)
Have adjusted the barrel so the lever sits about 3mm open. Have cycled the post about 10 times and used some silicon suspension lube on the post (as recommended by LBS). First few times seem ok but on the last few cycles the return rate is slowed and the "farting" sound starts again.
Have sat on the seat and no sign of dropping when weighted.
pull the seatpost out of the frame and adjust the cable at the bottom of the post.. Sounds like it has just slipped through a little.. its a 2 min fix
I'd agree with the suggestion to check the ither end of the cable. Beyond that ive got nothing I'm afraid!
Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated. will see how it is I the morning before dismantling it!
Check the full cable. Has it got any damage or a kink?
Update: managed to get to LBS today. Cable had a minor "manufacturing fault" which with expected cable stretch had caused it to start to shear by the pin that activates the dropping mech at the base of the post. So basically the pin wasn't always seated correctly, hence the intermittent dropping until it failed completely.
Chaps at the shop swapped the cable and pin out for me and gave the seat post a once over to check for damage and now all is well.
Happy days!
Good news!
