Got a KS Lev on order which should be arriving any day. I'm wondering whether anyone has any tips on installation?

In particular I noticed that KS advise not to grease the post but to use 'a friction or anti-seize compound' (presumably due to carbon bits?). What would people recommend for use in an aluminum frame? I'm going to want to remove it reasonably regularly for transporting, so I'm going to want to make sure it can slide out readily.

Any other gotchas to be aware of during fitting?

The instructions talk about a part that didn't make it to the production model - a flexible something or other as the first part of the cable guide from the remote. I actually used an old brake noodle to make a the cable run nice and tidy on mine. Not necessary at all, just with my cable run it made sense.

I used friction paste on mine after cleaning my seat tube so there wasn't loads of old grease. No problems with slipping even with the seat clamp done fairly loose. If you do the clamp too tight it can slightly restrict the action.

Other than that, it works a treat. Really pleased.

The friction paste recommendation is for the reason Sam gives. Nothing to do with carbon bits, everything to do with making sure the post works smoothly.

Thanks Sam. I'm not familiar with friction paste - any brand names I can go on please to start looking? Does it aid grip, or also help with keeping it moving smoothly?

Thanks too about the noodle. I'd read something about that, possibly a post of yours, and it had me wondering.

Sorry for the dumb questions...

I used Finish Line Fiber Grip as I already had some. Yep it helps create friction so no need to do stuff up really tight.

I didn't have any carbon paste, so I used Park Anti-Seize Compound which I already had on hand. The "no grease" caveat in the instructions was a complete surprise to me, but it makes sense when you think about it.

I didn't use a noodle on mine. I put the lever on the left, then routed the cable around the right side of the headtube. My frame doesn't have mounts for the remote cable, so I ziptied it to the rear brake line under the top tube.

There is an in-line barrel adjuster that is included to take up cable slack, but I don't remember seeing anything about it in the instructions. I just cut the remote cable housing in two and installed it underneath the top tube.

I love mine!
