Off to do a point to point in the alps. AM bike but will be riding uphill as well, so thinking the enduro model of the Conti Kryptotal tyres - anyone run them in the alps? Any good?
Normally run minions or high roller 2s ...
Love mine. Really robust tyre with massively improved sidewalls over previous contis. The 2.4s come up a little small though vs a similar sized maxxis. I was thinking of going to 2.6 on one bike but supposedly only the 2.4 is made in Germany with the funky black chilli compound.
Great - what kind of terrain do you ride? I guess most of the alps we'll be riding is hardpack / loose rock.
I'd like to try them. Can you find a matching pair in stock anywhere?
Last time I looked I'd need to be running a reverse mullet with 2.4 front and 2.6 rear.
I've a 2.6 which I've had no problems with in the last year, loads of grip and great performance - I've also a 2.6 argotal which is the intermediate conditions tyre. The Argotal unfortunately developed a kink pretty quick, you know that slight wobble in the tyre when you look at it from above? It does perform brilliantly in wet conditions though, but absolutely sucked in the dry (definitely a seasonal tyre)
I just got back from 5 days in the Alps on an Enduro soft rear, DH super soft front. Unfortunately my bike didn't arrive at the same time as I did so I only got 3 days on them, but they were fantastic.
Very confidence inspiring and while they're starting to show some signs of wear they still have tonnes of life left in them. Even the DH super soft seems to roll extremely well (far better than the MaxGrip Exo+ Assegai it replaced) so I wouldn't hesitate to go with that up front if you want the extra grip.
I'll be buying another set when these are cooked assuming I can find some.
I have argotal 2.6 s and ktyptotal 2.3 .loving them
Yes running one up front, got me down a day at the Golfie without any issue. I think it's just the endurance compound so the stickier ones will be even better.
Ah, they all seem to be out of stock.
Guess i'll try Minion DHRs front and back then.
I’d run a Xynotal enduro soft or DH soft on the back and a Kryptotal front enduro soft or ultra soft on the front I think.
Xynotal is pretty decent - more grip than the equivalent dissector / aggressor etc. I did put a 2cm slice in the sidewall at Dyfi Forest - so picked up a DH casing kryototal front ultra soft which I ran at Dyfi bike park the following day. Bike was glued everywhere and braking was amazing even in loose stuff.

I read this was the case about in the old range (Der Baron Projekt etc.), but IIRC with the new range the distinction is by compound.

In the comments of this article, there are some rolling resistance lab test results extracts from Bike Magazin.

What's your take on the following? This says the Dissector rolls faster, and this says they Xynotal isn't much faster than a Kryptotal but has a lot less grip. And I've read elsewhere that the Kryptotal Re is faster rolling than a DHR2. I'm trying to make my mind up on whether to bother swapping the rear for the seasons like I'm currently doing with DHR2 and Dissector.
Had Kryptotal front & rear for one run at FOD back in April, front suddenly deflated mid-run, after which the sidewall looked like this:

YMMV, but I found them incredibly stubborn when it came to getting them on or off the (Hunt Endurowide) rims. In contrast, I have no issues with Maxxis tyres on the same rims.
Kryptotal F and R here in Enduro soft 2.4.
Magnificent grip, tough as hell, decent rolling.
Rear one deflates if left unridden for a week, 2.4 is too narrow they need a 2.5 or true 2.4.
All in very happy.
