Well after trying this 29er thing I ended up back on the 26" Unit.

Thought I would treat it to a respray and some fettling. Big thanks to mick_r who added to hose guides and a 'big up' to Fastline coatings in Preston.

They made a good job of my 5 spot in the summer, so I though I would give them a go with this. Job is fantastic, really impressed. Just need some White Kona outline decals and the sterling silver headbadge compliments of simon1975.

Plus pop some Dirty Dans on the rims, my Formula R1's off the Cotic and some EC70 Monkeybars, then it will be complete, apart from maybe an attempt at doing some Jones XTR cranks. 🙄

and yip, I know the decking wants treating but it's winter, so it will have to wait. 🙂

That looks MINT! 🙂
I love black bikes and that's a quality bit of paint too. How much do they charge, if you don't mind me asking?

It was £60 for powder coating and Laquer, but that was for the frame and forks.

Hmmm...my 97 Stumpy SS looks a bit rough and I'm loving that paint job. Did you have to do the sanding down first?

got a black Ti fly on on the way 😉

are you thinking of having them do one of yours trailmoggy?

Did you have to do the sanding down first?

Nope, they did all the prep work, blasted, acid dipped, powder coated and laquered.

Are they the original P2 forks

No they are Salsa Cromotos

The forks I had done with the frame were the original P2's though. I thought I might as well get them done at the same time, that way if I decide to sell the frame and P2 forks they will match.

Very nice. And the tiny ossified bipedal hedgehog you have balanced on the back wheel sets it off a treat.

You won't believe how long it took me to get him to sit there long enough to take the photo 😉

yes it did, I took it in fully painted except for the paint that had been burned off when mick_r silver soldered the hose fitting on.

Seriously tempted.
Had a look at Fastline website but seems it's due a relaunch.
Preston though...it's bloody miles from Loughborough.

The downside of a beautiful paintjob is that it will make all the parts on the not-very-often-used SS look a bit shit - then I will spend loads changing everything else!

Your badge is on my desk ready to post; except I forgot to dig the special glue out of the shed...

I'd keep it stealthy if I were you with your intended graphics in a dark grey. Nice bike.

Well after trying this 29er thing I ended up back on the 26" Unit.

Mind if I ask why that was? I'm about to take the plunge into big wheels with a 29er Unit.

Cheers Simon

Mind if I ask why that was? I'm about to take the plunge into big wheels with a 29er Unit.

I found it a bit unwieldy compared to the 26er, but in it's defence I was using it in woods and for quick blasts around the Village, so
I don't think I was using it in an environment it would be better suited.

And the hose guides cost him 4 bottles of beer - hick... Actually worked out about right - 80p for each guide, £2 of silver, smidge of gas - bargain (for Dave) 🙂

Had one bottle last night after a couple of hours making the "painstays" for the special crossbike.

And in a month or so you can demo a proper short-rider 29er (16" chainstays anyone?.....)

Although OP I'd be worried if I were you, that last pic clearly shows that your house is falling over.

My SIR.9 is going to be all black & stealth like when it needs a re-paint, & I was thinking of dark grey graphics. You'd think that, given its an £800 frame, Niner would send you some new graphics for free...yeah right. Tight gets.

Vortexracing...best looking SS on here in a long while. Hat doffed.

Thanks for sorting those fittings out mick_r, told you the paint looked spot on.

And in a month or so you can demo a proper short-rider 29er

can't wait, espacially as how that 29er Unit rode will still be fresh in my mind.

Had one bottle last night

more self control than me, I would have downed the lot by now 😳

you lot have got me wondering if to bother with white decals on the downtube at all now, or leave it? 😕

Lovely looking bike, and a timely thread. If ever I manage to find a cheap FS frame for the missus it might need respraying so watch out for a 'What....' thread soon. That's a damn fine job, however I'm in the South East. Presumably they'd do postals?

Wow, that has to be one of the nicest Units around! 🙂

How do cromotos behave compared to the P2:s? They seem to be a little longer, A-C 440mm?

And the frame is size 16", right?

You can get the cromotos in 425mm, 445mm and 468mm. 468mm comes in QR and Maxle flavours

Wozza, It was all the inspiration I needed too! Got mine done shortly after seeing VRs.

I also went for the cromotos:

It does need a mow, you're right. It's a bit low for a lot of jobs too - specially with my backache.

So VR's cromotos are probably 445mm then, as they seem to be disc only. Is it a 16" frame?
