Anyone have any experience with offset shock bushings on an older (2003) Kona Stinky?
Previous experience tells me that jacking the front end up with dual crown forks isn't the way to go for us smaller folk so I'm hoping to experiment with less travel and slacker angles.
Should be fairly plain sailing, older konas were hardly pushing the limits for clearances but you should check how close the tyre gets to the seat tube with the spring removed.
It won't give you less travel btw.
Offset mounts on my 05 stab which isn't a million miles away from a sticky shouldn't be an issue I reckon...
Didn't exactly chop the head angle miles back, I did also drop the fork down in the crowns a fair bit.
Think it was worth it.
Cheers both 🙂 . Not actually looking to lower the travel as such (bike comes with 150mm rear and 130mm front as standard) but rather than chucking some oldskool 150mm+ dual crowns up front, considering offset bushings to slacken it out a bit. Watch this space . . .
I did it on a stinky 24 for my youngest son, just watch your cabling and your seat if you drop it right down, it all worked out but I can't give you much info on how it rode!
My old stinky had two lower mounting hole choices for the shock. Also had a friend who drilled an extra mounting hole in his. I don't really know if this makes it slacker though - I think the alternative mount makes the shock more linear. Carry on.
Ah yes, I remember that (I've owned a couple of Stinkys previously) - iirc the front mount is more linear and the rear progressive.
