I'm debating scratching an itch at the weekend and buying myself a DH with the money from selling the Rise.

Due to max budget of £2000 I'm struggling to find anything 29 front. But I can pick up a purple 2023 one of these well within budget.

Spec is fine apart from brakes, but I've got loads of those here.

I think you ought to get it, not because I know anything about them but because you’ve not had a new bike for a while!

Well it's been over a month. 😉

But it's more about the particular bike than whether I need a new bike

Looks like a decent buy.

Can't comment personally, but have you spoken to Adam Harris - he's usually at MIJ or nationals on one.

I've not, I've seen him about plenty and he's a fast guy for sure. I'll see if he's at Pearce this weekend. Good tip, thanks

They look like super fun bikes, I think they only have about 165mm travel in the rear and 180 up front and the brakes are a bit crap (buy I’m guessing you have nicer brakes in your garage).

Someone on PB is selling a 2022 Saracen Myst for £2k if you want a full DH bike

That certainly changes things quite a bit actually. Not because i feel i need 200mm both ends... but just 'because'

Personally I won't be buying a dh again if I ever kill my current one.  That said if you want to try one out,  get a proper one with the full amount of travel you can get.  They are crazy machines and a laugh to ride

I've tried the boys Session and loved it at BPW, hence me having thoughts on buying a DH. It's not that i want or need to hit feature XYZ or think it'll make me better, i just think a DH would be a laugh.  My only real issue is that currently we're away every weekend racing and i simply wouldn't get a chance, but that will change as we get to summer and i would, and deffo over winter i'd get some time on it.

But DH bikes (and even the Kona above) do get hard lives and need TLC, so finding one and within budget isn't that easy, but i don't want to spend a fortune either.

Fair,  they don't seem to have dropped in price as much as other bikes.   I built mine up from a frame years ago so it is no doubt horribly outdated and it runs on 27.5 wheels.  The myst is a good frame to start with,  if you can get a full build for about 2k that would be where I would go
