Great looking machine... that I have my eye on. Can't find too much info on up to date models.... reading rumours that it is one heavy mother. Anybody on here own a recent one who can provide factual comment?
I know its a 29er and pricy but Ti Honzo out for 2016 ....
The 650b Explosif can be found as a frame only in Ti if thats your thing.
I really like the look of the 2016 steel Explosif, the 2016 geometry looks great, i was shopping for a bike at end of 2014 and it came up as an option, in the end I opted for a 2015 Orange Clockwork 120S (650b), Orange have also lengthened & slackened for 2016 so could be worth a look.
Not sure about the weight, 520 isn't the lightest tubing, but fine for other brands to use too.
Yep, got an 2015 one (the orange).
I really like it for a quick "local" blast. Certainly not the lightest thing on the planet but I'd say as it's got no illusions about being an XC whippet then that's fine, and I wanted something for some after-work rough-and-tumble and that's what I got.
And I see an Aluminium Honzo in the 2016 range as well... looks great.
Not as great as the orange Explosif though! Think I am going to get one of these. Can I ask Mr Niggle what height you are and size frame you have? I am 6ft2 and wondering if I need the 19 or 21 inch.
Also do you know what size of rubber it can take? Thanks.
I've got a 17", but I'm 5'7" probably on the cusp of 15/17" versions; that said a stealth Reverb fits fine with enough seat post for a crud-guard.
Tyre-wise it's got 2.25 Ardents on a the moment with a fair bit of space so I guess the 2.4 ardent would go easily. It's in the car so I'll have a measure at lunchtime.
I've got a 650b '13 Explosif. I've had this from new. 17'' @ 5'9''.
It's a fantastic bike. I bought it as an all rounder- local XC loop, some playing at Swinley & some local 4x bits. It does everything comfortably. With the dropouts fully forward it's very playful and easy to manual. It's really well finished but not the lightest. It's hugely versatile though and I can't see me selling it.
Edit- I've got an Ardent 2.2 on the back and there is lots of mud clearance I think.
Thanks gents. Looks like I may get away with a 19" then. Very wary about bike sizing since I bought a 'large' Slackline without realising how short the top tube was. Silly me. Any of you have any idea of frame weight?
Frame weight is (around); 5.9 lbs for 17'' and 6.2 for 19'' for the 2013 frame but I believe it using a slightly lighter tubeset now.
Help ma boab. As we say in Scotland!
