Hi...Am I doing something wrong or is komoot just not as good as RWGPS for plotting road bike routes in particular.
Up to recently I’ve used ride with gps to plot my routes but I switched to Komoot to see if it was as good as many made out .
My problem is when plotting a route that crosses over itself or even alongside a previously plotted section it drags the previously plotted section to that point instead of continuing the route .
As brilliantly informative as it is the route plotting section just doesn’t seem as intuitive as RWGPS .
Surely I’m doing something wrong ?
Thanks
I love it. Just ad a few more "include on route" points to stop it re-routing
I primarily use RWGPS and I can’t get on with Komoot either, plotting routes is a pain in the bum by comparison.
I didn't give it much of a chance TBH, but my initial impression was that it was a bit annoying and there are already other tools that work better but come with less annoying levels of marketing.
I've always found it really easy. Pick a few points and it finds a (usually sensible) route between them. Changing bike type (road, gravel, mtb etc) changes the route in sensible ways. If it messes up then it's usually just a matter of changing the order of the points (easily done).
You need add as end point not add as waypoint. If you add as waypoint it routes to pick them up as efficiently as possible, if you add as end point it routes between them sequentially.
TLDR: You're doing it wrong.

I saw the thread title and 100% wanted to join in! It drives me mad! Why can't it have a sensible circular loop option without needing to add loads of way points. I've largely given up and have gone back to using OS maps, or get my Garmin Explore to come up with a loop for me. Plus the need to log into the browser version to download the gpx (which then sticks you in an infinity loop reopening the app), drives me up the wall! Arghhhhh!!
The newish Strava Route Builder, with options for direct/popular; hilly/flat; paved/dirt etc. is much better for me than the old builder for road rides. However, I only use this to get a route plan in my head, rather than send to my Lezyne.
The only thing I don't like about it is the segment explorer no longer allows you to search for categorised hill climb segments on the pc, only on the app, albeit there are masses of garbage elevation data segments that are nothing like even a cat4 climb.
Unless it's improved an awful lot this year (I've no idea, not used it), the Lezyne route planner https://www.lezyne.com/gpsroot/gps_routes-navigation.php is something I hate, in order to get a precise complete ride route.
It's risky, but if I want to get from here to there and I'm in unfamiliar territory, I simply use the Lezyne app navigator and tap where I want to reach. It then shows me a basic elevation profile without numbers plus a distance, pick one and off I go with turn-by-turn directions. If I ignore/miss a turn, it will attempt to re-route, as long as my mobile has a decent mobile data signal... Something not guaranteed when riding in the sticks.

We used this for the first time this week, and was impressed. However having to find the route on the app, and then having to log into the browser to download the gpx was also a hassle! Can you do the route planner in the browser version? I couldn't find it.

Mrhoppy ...Many thanks I’ve tried your suggestion and it works much better 👍
Seems I’m not alone in my frustrations with komoot...I think after the subscription comes to an end I’ll go back to RWGPS , for me plotting road bike routes seems much easier with RWGPS
Guys as always thanks

Is RWGPS free?
Free and Premium options. As far as I could tell, the Premium one simply makes it easier to transfer the file to the GPS unit.
I've given up with RWGPS now and just use Strava's new route builder which is miles ahead of their previous offering. Seeing as I already pay for Strava, I'm not going to pay for other systems like Komoot or RWGPS.
I never got on with Komoot either, it just didn't feel intuitive and didn't offer anything new or unique (as far as I could tell).

Yes. There's a pay monthly option that offers more functionality, but I've been using it for a couple of years without paying.

Perhaps it's different for Garmin but for Wahoo devices, the route is available almost instantly if your account ties up with RWGPS.
Komoot for following other people's routes and some adaptation of them, it's also good for navigating in-situ. RWGPS or similar are better ime for creating your own routes in detail though.
I use RWGPS paid option as there's better editing tools available there but I can get away with paying for that here and there rather than every month.
