Been using Komoot for a while now and found it really good for discovering new routes and planning rides. I like the community feel and not focusing on performance aspect like Strava does. However I have one issue with it that I believe is more relevant recently with this current lockdown, it lacks a privacy zone in the same way as Strava. This is a real shame as currently you only have the choice to make your rides public to all and private, no just with followers etc.
So it seems if you ride from your house and care about security, you can't contribute to the community and help build what seems to be a great platform? Anyone else find the same? Or am I missing something here that would help?
I've raised a couple of requests with them but only get a 'not possible or on our roadmap' answer back.
I have made all my rides public except those from my house, which i have kept as private as i'm not that daft. You'd have to be very trusting to let all your followers know where you and all your nice bikes live.
Liking Komoot for planning. Rides are syncing now from Garmin but I have to keep them private as I only really want to share with followers and better still would like a privacy zone. Sort that out and it maybe replaces Strava for me.
Well, there's also the component tracking element of Strava.
Though all of these I can do with Garmin Connect, but it's a horrid web site and app, few friends want to use it though they use a Garmin. It has the privacy bits, share with followers only and component tracking though. Has route planning also but no where near as easy as Komoot.
Can you not mark as private but invite people to your route. That should get round your problem.
Seems that others are thinking the same then. It's not really a problem as such but I would like to share with the community as I am looking for other peoples rides, I hope I can help people with suggested routes. Would like to do all that without my home location being shown.
Doesn't look possible for now then, which is a shame. I still like the platform and will continue to use it but as I ride from my door most of the time, keep them as private.
Maybe I'm missing something, but why do you need to plan a route right from your doorstep? Presumably you know your local area already...
Can't you just start your routes at the nearest major road intersection?? (Or trail head?)
Routes I'm sharing, that's what I do. I plan from somewhere bit further away.
But it has ride logging synced with Garmin etc. Followers can see these but only if public, and I can't set them public. Different issue though as that's not really about ride planning.
Although sometimes it's nice to share a route with followers based on a ride I've done. I can do that but as soon as I edit it to remove bits near home etc, it starts trying to re-route off road/path parts. I select to not auto route those bits and it just does a straight line, not keeping the route I actually did.
Oh, and a decent undo feature would be nice. It offers undo if it throws an error saying it can't route it but otherwise can't find one (and the undo just reset it all to beginning anyway).
@markgraylish, good point but its the recording of my ride that starts from my house currently.
I've marked all rides as private now and will keep it that way.
