On my way to hospital for an appointment a complete idiot failed to see my bright yellow hi viz jacket and came onto roundabout with no hint of slowing down. Ran up the back of me dumping me on my hip, elbow and back. Trip to A&E, no real damage just scrapes an bruises, police been round and all caught on CCTV so no argument about it. Due care charge calling hopefully.
Not checked bike yet will do so later. Today was day 46 from a self generated consecutive cycling task. Cant see 47 happening!

Take your/a bike somewhere safe tomorrow for day 47. Even if it means sticking it in the car and having a ride through the park after work. And healing vibes also, crap isn't it?

Hope you're not too badly injured, but bear in mind that some injuries take a while to manifest- my lower leg was the point of impact and it took a couple of days for the swelling to build to the point it was pressurising my nerves and causing pins and needles, and I went from cycling 10 mules home straight after the accident to spending a month laid up immobile.

Useful discussion and pointers here

http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/rapid-unscheduled-deceleration-new-road-bike-time-rtc

and no doubt similar threads, but in short, I was knocked off in June, deliberately ignored by her insurer (standard tactic to dissuade claims) and ended up going through British Cycling and their lawyers.

And whilst my bike was rideable it was actually written off - one of the rack bolts had been driven into the seatstay and basically torn a hole into it.

Cheers all. Paramedic gave me ibuprofen at the scene and my wife (nurse) has given me a telling off for not putting frozen peas on my back.
@crashtestmonkey cheers for the link will have a read

I obviously didn't ride 10 mules home.... 😉

Sounds like you're being well looked after anyway!

This is a good guide
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/131099/

Get photos of injuries and damage. Don't agree anything until you're sure you're completely healed.

Get a copy of the CCTV before it's deleted.

And get well soon.

I have a tendency to sit on the toptube when sat at lights...you know, going for that rapha too cool for school look...if I got rear ended the pointy end of the saddle it likely to rupture something that shouldnt be ruptured.

Get a lawyer. Sue the til the pips squeak. It's the only way to (legally) hit back and the only language they will understand.

Policewoman says the driver is really concerned and would like to speak to me. Not going to do anything until I have checked bike properly and injuries settled down. Have been meaning to join CTC or BC for ages but its a 'get round to it' job.
project-will have a look into that thanks

Healing vibes - hope you're not too hurt. Pisser when it happens isn't it! Was taken out by driver in Feb. Hospital few hours later. Police were shit. Dealt with her insurer direct with no solicitors. Bike, lid and bibs all replaced. Email me if you want more details or find the thread in my history. Oh, you'll hurt like hell tomorrow too

Healing vibes your way. Hope it's just bruising, aches and pains. At least the driver seems to care, which seems like a rarity from reading other posts on here.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Don't speak with the driver at all if you're thinking of going the legal route.

Unfortunately +1

they may have the best of motives but also could be using it get statements to assist them

the driver is really concerned
And so they should be.

At least he / she is willing to talk. The last time I got knocked off, the first words out of her mouth were, "You didn't have your lights on". 2p.m. in July.

Bike was a write off, Berghaus jacket destroyed. Witnesses, witnesses, witnesses.

Really sore and stiff this morning but grateful I am able to feel the pain-could have been much worse. Its very scary looking at the front of a car getting closer and closer to your rear wheel. Managed a bit of sleep but not much. Just making a brew and going to ring cycleaid I think. I dont have the drivers insurance details yet so will have to get those off him.
Thanks for all the advice

cycleaid will get the insurance details from the car reg number, keep a note of phone calls etc, and costs incured for new parts/bike/clothes/helmet etc.

Kicked off process with cycleaid today who seem quite confident. Will get bike checked at LBS, jacket was bought there so should get receipt but no clue where, when or how much for helmet. Just have to get a quote I suppose.

Whilst I didn't use cycleaid, I used Leigh Day through BC, I had to provide a receipt and a write-off valuation for my actual bike, but for all my kit (shoes, shorts, glasses etc all trashed) that I didn't have receipts for I just found internet links to the same or current version of the items owned as well as photographs of the damage.

They didn't dispute any of my kit and seem to have offered full value not taking into account wear and tear, but they have as far as I am concerned under-valued my bike, including ignoring the receipt showing the £200 wheels were only a month old. The lawyer agrees and so it's going through court.

The police should provide a copy of the accident report to you or your lawyer, and you should be updated by them as to how the investigation into your accident is going. In my case she was reported for careless driving and as she had no prior driving convictions she was offered a driving education course instead of points (similar to the approach for speeding), which I was happy with. The police prosecution will work in your favour as it is far less likely that they will contest fault, then it's just a case of settling on a figure.

Thats what I was thinking. WPC said she thought any penalty maybe education course.
Hope you get sorted with wheels. Its all crap you dont want to deal with really eh! Not important compared to a lot of peoples problems I know but rather be thinking about something else
