Recently got a Moda Major X junior cyclocross bike for the lad, great spec and value but uh-oh...
Stock tyres are grooved 'touring', so I started looking for knobblies for his cross races.
Turns out the wheel is actually a 650A. I can find a total of no knobbly tyres. I'll contact the shop and probably Moda too, but given they will be looking at the same google results as me has anyone suffered and solved this problem before?

Interested in this too for a mate, he said his lads wheels where 650a and I presumed he had the name wrong.

Help is obviously as rare as a 650A wheel...

Do you really have a 650A? as doing a quick Google search brings back the bike having a 650c.

If you have a 650c, Schwalbe Speedway Pros come in this fitting

See if they'll post them over 🙂

From my limited understanding, 650A is otherwise known as 26 * 1 3/8" (but is not a 26" tyre/wheel). Confused???

Maybe a 26" cyclocross tyre would fit? Something like a Schwalbe CX pro? If you're anywhere nr Halifax/Bradford I have a pair you could try.

Yep. Definitely 650A. The road version has 650c. Rang the dealer who confirmed wheel size and knows of no knobbly tyre other than googling like the rest of us.
Woody, good find, might actually have to get em posted from USA...

I've come up against the same problem (same bike) - I've been looking for both road slicks and cyclocross tyres in 650a.

You can get wheel chair slicks that will fit (Schwalbe Rightrun), but not found any knobbly tyres available in Britain. Have you managed to get any of those kenda cross tyres sent over from America?

I have managed to fit (just!) a set of 700c wheels with cyclocross tyres on (and make the brakes work just about well enough) but there is absolutely no mud clearance, so not much use really.

My current thought is to get a set of 650c wheels and use those as you can get cross and road tyres for them.

Not much help for the actual tyres but Sheldon does somewhat clear up what size 650a actually is. I also like his remark about 27five at the end, given it was written some years ago!

There is nothing in the UK for you and moda were far from genuine with us on the issue. It's why we stopped dealing with them. I don't like being lied to by a manufacturer.
There is no real option for alternative rim sizes in the frame with cross brakes

Thanks bugpowderdust. I ordered some speedway pros (from Zepnat in the end). They arrived this morning and look like they'll do the job.

So, to report back on my original post.
Schwalbe speedway pro are pretty much the one and only option I found. As it turns out these are really great cross tyres, bizarrely only marketed for speedway and not even listed on schwalbe's website.

Talking to the guys from Zepnat, they spotted this a while back, ordered a nice big batch and actually supply their Moda builds with them fitted.
So I'm sorted but disappointed that Moda keep this particular detail very quiet from customers and even the stockists.
