Kneepad rub?

Last September I treated myself to some new "big" kneepads as a beefier option to the Rapha ones I've had for some time but which offer minimal actual protection. Got some 7IPD Project Knee

They've been brilliant for the first 6 months - all day comfortable and stay put, but the last 6 weeks or so, every time I've worn them they've rubbed the top of my shin raw, exactly where the bottom edge of the removable knee cup sits. Yesterday it took just over 2 hours to draw blood on both legs, despite having tried chamois cream on the rub area. That's a very short ride indeed.

Any solutions? Not happy that something quite so expensive lasts such a short time. The sleeve gets washed every couple of rides (yesterday it was clean on). Not sure what I can do about the kneecup itself (which seems very soft when its warmed up after being worn). I guess the next stage is a big patch of zinc oxide tape on each leg, but not sure that will stay put.

Thanks!

Maybe grit in the seams, I usually wear tights under neath them to prevent rubbing

If chamois cream doesn't work, I slip a buff between my skin and the pad.

Not ideal on something reasonably new, but I mainly do it with much older pads that I still like to use now and then.

i had that happen after a few months/year on a set

i want to say they got briefly better after a decent wash and chamois cream...

however, i have since bought a new set so can't remember if it was a permanent solution

I get this in the summer sometimes, end up with blisters rather than open wounds... I used to "lube" the problem areas of my knees with sudocreme and that seemed to work a treat.

But in your case that sounds a bit nastier and maybe something like sports tape or even trying some different pads would be ideal?

Duct tape. Sticky to your skin, slippy for the knee pad. Fairly standard solution for ski tourers dealing with hot spots in ski boots.

Compeed blister plasters or hyrocolloid dressings?

padded and sticky?

Bodyglide has always worked well for me when this happens, though mine’s never been as bad.

Are the knee cups handed (or kneed) and you’ve got them mixed up and in the opposite sleeves

When did you last wash them?  I’ve found kneepads can start to rub when they’re absolutely filthy with sweat and dead skin build up. Somethings a good wash and scrub can sort it out.
