I'll be heading to the physio next week and probably a MRI scan but in the meantime has anyone ever had any symptoms in the knee, like below?

No pain. No locking out or giving way, full range of movement, not tender to touch

BUT

when I squat it feels full of 'pressure' and a small lump of fluid forms and bulges at the front of the knee. I can cycle but anything longer than 15 minutes and the thing starts to swell again. I first had it 3 weeks ago but can't remember twisting it. Just woke up the next morning with a swollen knee and the above symptoms. It is my 'good' knee to since I've had ACL and meniscus tears on the other one. I've got two dodgy ones now. Anybody else had similar symptoms?

Cheers, Matt

Over use maybe? Patellar tendonitis?

I guess a professional medical opinion is what's really needed though.

Not quite the same symptoms, but I've been having issues since turning up for a ride last July/Aug to discover my dropper post stuck down. Rather than walking away, I did a 2+ hour ride with a stuck down dropper and right knee has been weak and sometimes painful ever since. Seemed to be repairing until a few days ago whilst shuffling around on my knees lighting the woodburner, pain in my knee cap, back to square one. next morning back of my knee was really tight, getting up in the morning and walking up and down stairs had to be done delicately until it warmed up. Definitely think it's muscle, ligament, sinew etc etc rather than bone, knee cap. rode my bike 6 miles on the canal to work yesterday and 6 miles back, first time on bike since last july/Aug, got up this morning and hobbling up and down stairs until it warmed up. Thought it would repair itself, but probably now going to the dr to get a physio referral as getting on towards 12 months now without getting any better.

Thanks all. You're right a MRI will be the only thing that will really help. I've looked up that plica condition and that fits some of the symptoms. I'm a bit like you Rorschach I've had 3 ACLs and 2 medical meniscus tears so I know how bad they can be. It's not that bad and I have no recollection of doing anything to it this time. Odd swelling but thanks for all your help. MRI next week then.

Matt

No, wish I was. I can get the dosh for the MRI referral but will then have to join the queue for the rest of the treatment: if needed. Fingers crossed that it won't be and I'm just being impatient.

I had a spell of dodgy knees after I stopped racing and training. Moved over to racing nitro rc cars which involved running around on uneven ground after upturned cars an kept getting fluid in my knees.
Basically my knees had become less "knitted" together by my muscles which made them prone to injury.
After several physio sessions that got me nowhere I fugured out that I needed to get back on the bike for just a couple of sessions a week and had no problems since.
Might just be a case of fitness, perhaps exagerated by new pedal cleats or misaligned cleats? I use time pedals now with ton of float which may also have helped.
Probably way of the mark but just chucking ideas out there.

Cheers Lest, I do think that it is to with muscle/hamstring since there was no 'event' that caused the swelling. i raced aa full season of cross and BOTB so plenty of riding/racing/training. It's probably/hopefully some muscle/soft tissue issue lethally combined with old age probably. Thanks for the ideas though-I don't think/bloody hope it isn't, some serious ACL/meniscus issue though. I'm whinging about to anyone that will listen!

Cheers,

Matt
