Hi all

Been using a pair of IXS carve knee pads for the last year.

However lately they've started rubbing/chaffing my knees. Only been machine washed once the rest Of the time is a hand wash.

Anyone got any ideas why they've now decide to start rubbing?

I have same issue now with a 12yr old set of Dainese FR ones that produce a flesh like wound on one side around side of knee.

I'm going to try to get the good ol' seamstress (aka mum) to take a look.
surprising what you can do with a set of pins, patches, velcro and stitching.

jobs a goodun ... errr here's hoping.

This stuff was recommended to me by a runner friend, completely stops my pads rubbing. He used it for bag chafing on long runs.

Some very thin lycra kneewarmers underneath? I use some cheap DHB ones and they work a treat.

This. Also helps stop the top of your knees getting scraped when you end up sliding down the trail on your face and the top edge of the pad collects gravel.

Similar to tomnavman's suggestion - I often slap a thin layer of chammy cream (Assos or Elite stuff usually) on my knees if I know I'm going to be out for a long one, or if it's particularly hot/sticky. Hotter weather may well be why your pads have started rubbing now too?

+1 for Sudocream. Always used to get raw knees on long rides. Never had so much as a tickle in over a yr of using it. Apply plenty front and back and prepare for sidelong looks in the car park!!

really appreciate the responses.

Going to give bodyglide & Sudo cream a go to stop my knees wearing away.

I get this with one of my pads, where the fabric inside has worn and the plastic poked through.

I just slip a buff between skin and pad and it doesn't bother me then.

My other pads also irritate a bit sometimes, so I try to remember to smear a bit of chamois cream on my knees while lubricating my undercarriage.

I just decided I couldn't be arsed generally wearing my kneepads unless it's a push up/steep down ride with pointy things to hit.

This may not be the most sensible solution.

I wear 3/4 bibs almost all year round and have no issue. If not wearing them then I use a wee bit of chamois cream on the vulnerable areas. Not had a problem at all with the new Sweet Protection Light pads. 🙂

I find that if I wash my pads without washing powder they dont chafe. They go in a normal wash, followed by a 2nd wash with no powder.

I wear mine most rides but not in XC races.

Which also happen to be when I switch back to SPDs - and sometimes fall off at slow speed, landing on my knee.

It still hurts now.

🙁
