I've started wearing knee pads much more after a knee injury earlier this year.  Previously have only worn them on Euro holidays (due to risk/hassle dealing with medical issues overseas or losing part of an expensive trip due to injury).

But how do people get a decent life out of them?  Both Ms B and mine have shredded mesh on the backs from catching on pedal pins, little of it from actual offs.  Few of the holes in the back of mine even scratched my legs.  But after a 2 week trip they're full of holes there but with little or no wear anywhere else.

The IXS Trigger Race i've have 3DO alike insert but bizarrely it says you can replace that rather than replacing the fabric outer. I've never had a serious off in them that would test the insert, let alone damage it to the extent it would need replacing.

has anyone found a source of mesh for sewing in as a replacement?

Not sure how you're catching pedal pins on the back of your knees?

I mainly ride in IXS Flow pads and they do develop foxing on that area and the odd hole, but only after a lot of use.

Maybe share a pic?

Knees/calves.  It's pretty much always when standing over the bike or pushing it.

It's quite possible that we'd not do it very often at all in the UK but riding steep stuff in Spain/france it happens more.
