Got some decent Dakine impact knee pads. Stay up well good fit but rubbed little area of knee raw. Vaseline didn’t stop it nor did a bandaid.
Annoying ! Any suggestions ?

Keep trying pads til you find ones that don't rub. If you find one in ten pairs you've done well.

I usually find new pads rub behind my knees raw. I always just persist and either the pad must soften/wear or the skin does something because it always stops happening eventually. Showers are always fun during that wearing in period though...

I've had this recently with my new Bluegrass pads which I never got with my previous Dainese ones. I've been experimenting and recently i've been applying Coconut Oil to my knees before I put my pads on, and then ensuring that the pads are in the correct position. Not done any really long rides since using the Coconut Oil but so far it's definitely an improvement!

Body glide is your friends. It’s used by surfers to avoid surf rash. Works great for knee pad rub. I tend to find as pads get older the soft inner surface gets a bit more rubby, £10 stick of body glide will extend the useful life of your pads and works in the hottest and sweatiest of weather. It’s like a solid deodorant stick and lasts for ages

I've recently bought some race face ambush knee pads and elbow pads.

Since wearing them for possibly 6 rides, I'm getting itchy rashes on elbows and knees.
The elbows are worse, dry cracked skin and really sore.

Thought it was maybe an allergic reaction to the pads as I've never experienced this with my old poc pads.

Might try some of the cream suggestions before I ditch them

If chamois cream or similar doesn't work, I slip a buff between my knee and the offending pad.

I have a TLD and and IXS which both need this. Give it a try and report back.

I always wear very thin Lycra knee warmers under pads - other than those thin g- form pads I’ve always found they rub. The knee warmers sort that out nicely and also stop pads smelling quite so badly 😁

And don’t forget to wash the pads regularly to get rid of all the bacteria/dead skin/dried sweat/etc which makes the rashes worse

Chamois cream, and dropping them to the ankles for long climbs.

Also I've found not pulling them up to much helps, mine are probably a size too small around the thigh now, so the back of the knee is also fairly tight and rubs on my hamstring. Having them an inch lower helps a lot.

I used sudocrem on my new RF pads, when they rubbed a spot raw, and it sorted it nicely.

I think this chamois butter is the best for knee pads - it does wash off over time.

Bodyglide or anti-blister wax for shoes works really well. Bit on the skin and bit on pad.

I use assoss sadle creme. It's great on knee pads as well.

I have some race Face pads that wore and then gave me vicious friction burns. I sorted that by sewing a knackered old silk tie inside. The silk could move and my knees were happy.

The thin fox pads have been great for me almost every ride for the last 2 years. They are starting to rub on bigger rides. They are going to get a tie sewed in soon😀

Thanks good advice here, the old tie idea a good one, pulled them inside out and just hand sew it in huh ?

Kinesio tape over the areas that rub. Sweaty week in Morzine with no kneepad rubbing.

I also use it on my hands to stop blisters if I'm riding consecutive days of gnarly stuff

@drew360

Yep, I cut them open and stiched them in at the top. I wasn't sure what would happen when washing them. The answer after 10 washes was - nothing, the tie was fine.

I'll dig them out and do a photo later.

3/4 bib tights. I've not had a pair that don't rub yet.
