Hi folks

Looking for a new set of Knee pads. have been using RaceFace Charge which are very minimal and could do with something a little more substantial but still pedal friendly!

Anyone got recommendation?

I can't help, but with the amount of knee pads I have ordered, tried on and sent back to CRC, I'm sure it would have been cheaper for them to fly me over for a fitting session!

Fox launch pro's for me. Great protection (have impact testier them on many rocks and a number of trees), stay in place when you crash and once they're worn in a bit (they're always a little tight on me for the first half a dozen rides - they don't pinch or anything, but very snug) they're really comfortable and I can ride in them all day. They are a bit warm in [s]summer[/s] two days a year in makes it above 20 degrees

This months Enduro mag (well iPad mag) has s group test. IXS flow stands out miles ahead in the lightweight category as having more protection than the others but still being comfortable.

Free download. Well worth a read.

Fox Launch Pros are really good. Saved my knees a few times. They have protection for the side of the knee too.

raceface ambush d30 for me. theyre open backed so theres no need to take my shoes off to fit them. theyre very comfortable and pedalling with them on is good. they have a good secure fit too...dual straps top and bottom and one in the middle

7idp Covert - you can adjust the pad layers depending on what level of protection you need.

I've gone through TLD5450, IXS dagger, POC.. these are brilliant - they don't feel great when walking around, but when pedalling you don't notice them at all!

I have sweet protection bearsuit lights and while they are good they have begun to fall apart (that happened almost immediately). I have fox launch pro too and they are also very good!

I like the look of the 7IDP ones and may try them next!

Have got some 7iDP Flex knee pads and they are indeed brilliant

The double straps at the top and adjustable calf are most excellent

Sat and tried a few good pairs on at CRC before Christmas to find a replacement for my collapsing Kyle Straits. I didn't want too soft a pad, so ended up with IXS Slope EVOs - they've been very good in the limited off-road riding I've managed to squeeze in since then. Very reassuring level of pro, but still good to pedal for a good while.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The Ion K Pact were on my radar before ether enduro mag test but haven't found many real life users! IXS Flow might be enough for me though!

Very happy with both 661 d30 ones and my Troy Lee knee shin combos fit and forget on both fronts.

+1 for raceface ambush d30 for gnar - tested knee to rock - carried on riding. comfortable for pedalling and the convenience of not having to remove shoes to put them on and off is great.

bliss minimalist for less gnar and all winter (still uses a d30 type stuff).

fox launch pro chafe me to bits so I use them for non pedal uplift days - pedalling in them is hell.

washing is the main problem for me. the soft inner liners start to stiffen up after washing causing irritation. bliss minimalist have been washed no end of times and keep on going.

Bliss minimalist are ace for all round riding, keeps the knees nice and warm too. I tend to wear my Troy lee's in the likes of the lakes though, a bit more protection.

What was the issue/drawbacks with the IXS Dagger - was about to hit buy on a set.

@howsyourdad - how do they stand up to washing? The only down side I've found to the fox launch pro's is that after extended use ( 18 months / 2 years+) the knap of the material on the inside becomes less comfortable (as mentioned above) at which point they rub the knees on long rides / when riding several days in a row. As the they get heavy usage I don't mind replacing them after a couple of years, but it would be better if I didn't have to. Have you crash tested them yet? What's the protection on rocks like compared to the fox?
