Chose tonight to try and put some air volume reducing bands in  my rockshox monarch debonair, took can offf ect and put bands back on a reassembled, pumped shock up to 230psi and sat on it to cehck sag and the shock bottomed out.  I put the shock pump back on and it read 230 psi???  What have I done, I assume reassmbled it incorrectly?

Any help appreciated.

I've never had a Monarch in bits. But one thing springs to mind. If you've damaged the seal the 230 PSI (or part of it) could also now be on the negative side of the piston. So in effect you have very little or no air spring as the pressure is much the same on either side.

Take it apart again and have a look at the seals.

Are you supposed to half fill it, bounce a few times to equalise then fill all the eay

Could be a blows seal

Where are you, what size shock?

Thanks for the suggestions i tried pumping halfway and doing a few compressions then pumping up to pressure but no joy.  I have taken it apart and the bands I put on are not covering the air port and there only appears to be one seal which seems to be sitting in place ok.  Think it will be a shop job, not quite sure how its gone so wrong, watched online video and copied carefully.  No sure what shock size Its holding the pressure according to the pressure gauge, just ovously not where it is supposed to!

Not sure. I've had mine open twice this past week to take bands out and then put them back in. Air out. Oring off. Outer pull down.  Adjust bands. Reverse. No issues.

sounds obvious, but have you tried letting all the air out and starting again. Remembering to equalise the pressure once you get to 100psi, then pressurising to 230

if that doesn't work, then I'd say (as above) it's a blown seal.

Shock size is normally written on the shaft 216 x 63 for example

check the o-rings around the body.if the second one has rolled or twisted that could cause the problem you have

If you push the air can on too quickly you can push the middle seal out of its groove very easily.

+1 for inflate to 100psi, cycle 5 or 7 times, its in the instructions, then inflate to pressure.

Thanks for replies, it looks like I have rolled the middle o ring and damaged it, very annoying I thought I had been careful.  I tried reseating it but think it's done for.  Can I replace this with a general o ring of same size from DIY store as not going to be able to get a kit delivered in time?

No harm in trying. If you have the correct grease, reassembling with lots of grease might help everything to seal up.
