The reason for asking is that I've just had problems fitting 2 new X10.93 SRAM chains using the supplied link. I had to use a pedal stroke to pop the link together, and not surprisingly I now cant unjoin it by hand.
Are the supplied links not "Missing Links"? They look pretty similar.
Last KMC chain I ordered, KMC X10-93, came with a re-useable missing link. IIRC it's only the links that come with the KMC 11sp chains that are non-re-useable.
Have a look here: http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/ghetto-master-link-pliers
KMC have a missing link, I think (not sure) the cheapest doesn't.
The SRAM ones, and again I can't recall the name are a one off fit. Black link, Speed link?
I use KMC and can very very easily remove the link on all my bikes.
Thanks guys - I've been using KMC Missing Likes with SRAM and Shimano chains for a while, which is why I was surprised I cant remove a brand new missing link from a brand new KMC chain.
I'll keep trying before getting some plyers.
Circlip pliers work quite well. I have undone the SRAM ones a few times now, even though they are not supposed to be undone.
